Sudan’s prosecutor refuses to release activist despite judicial decision
August 15, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – Sudanese prosecution on Monday, refused to release on bail a detainee accused of killing a military intelligence sergeant whose body was near the presidential palace.
Last March, the Sudanese army said that body of the killed military was found after an anti-coup protest and launched an arrest campaign against the resistance committees leading members.
The mother of Hussam al-Sayad, one of the arrested activists, told Sudan Tribune that the judge refused to renew his detention due to the lack of evidence but the prosecutor refused his release adding he would make an appeal requesting the court to change his decision.
She added that her son was interrogated about the funding of their group “Gadiboun” who is known for clashing with the security forces during the protests.
“My son is illegally detained and suffers severe injuries that require urgent medical intervention,” she said.
Also, she pointed out that his lawyer filed a request to authorise him to consult a doctor.
Al-Sayad went missing for several days in July, before he was found detained at the police investigation office in Khartoum. He was accused of killing the sergeant, according to his lawyer
In a bid to end the ant-coup protest movement, the security services used to arrest leading activists of the neighbourhood committees without credible charges.
