Eastern Sudan tribal coordination suspends participation in National Consensus coalition
August 17, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – An Eastern Sudan tribal body decided, on Wednesday, to suspend its participation in the meetings of the National Consensus coalition to protest the non-inclusion of its positions in a political declaration they recently adopted.
Mubarak al-Nur, a member of the Eastern Coordination Committee, accused parties supporting the eastern Sudan peace deal in the Juba Peace Agreement of standing against the inclusion of their demands.
“The resumption of our participation in the coalition depends on the approval of all the demands without modification,” al-Nur further told Sudan Tribune.
He said that the removed articles provide to associate the tribal coordination to any future political agreement, and hold a negotiating platform to consider the historical, political, cultural and social marginalisation of the region.
In addition, al-Nur pointed out that they call for maintaining the suspension of the eastern Sudan agreement until an inclusive agreement is reached between all the stakeholders in the region.
