Saddiq Al-Mahdi Exposes Suggestion on Roadmap for National Accord

Khartoum, Mar. 5 (SUNA)- Chairman of the National Ummah Party, Al-Saddiq Al-Mahdi, has defended the agreement between his party and the National Congress, indicating that the agreement will be exposed to the other political parties. At a press conference he held Wednesday at the Headquarters of the National Ummah Party in Omdurman, Al-Mahdi said that the proposed comprehensive forum, which was suggested by his party, aims to realize the two goals of a roadmap for national accord and agreement on mechanisms to implement the agreed upon issues. He said that the proposed roadmap would provide opportunity for all the political parties to contribute to realizing just and comprehensive peace and democratic transformation to pave the way for development and social peace and to safeguard the national sovereignty. The leader of the National Ummah Party said that a delegation of the party signed on March 2nd an initial agreement with the National Congress on six papers that included the national and religious principles, the elections, measures for confidence building, Darfur issue, the freedoms and the peace agreements. Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Ummah Party, Dr. Abdul-Nabie Ali Ahmed, said that the coming stage would witness completion of the organizational structures of the party to cope with the challenges, besides reviewing the party’s electoral programme, establishment of media institutions of the Ummah Party and two preparatory committees for the seventh General Conference of the party and the coming elections.
