SPLM-N al-Hilu captures Sudanese army militiamen in South Kordofan
August 30, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North led by Abdul Aziz al-Hilu (SPLM-N) said on Tuesday that they had captured 9 members of the Sudanese Army’s Reserve Forces (RF) who penetrated deep inside a rebel held area and clashed with its fighters.
On August 10, an armed group of the Reserve Forces from the Dernagas locality infiltrated the movement-controlled area of al-Daliba and clashed with the SPLA-N fighters, said the movement’s spokesman, Jabir Komi, in a statement extended to Sudan Tribune.
“Nine RF personnel have been captured with their weapons, including a PK machine gun, and nine Kalashnikov,” added Komi.
The SPLM-N al-Hilu released the photos of the prisoners of war and their ID cards with their names and grade on its Facebook page
The Sudanese government and the SPLM-N al-Hilu have declared a unilateral cessation of hostilities after the fall of the former regime.
However, they did not sign a ceasefire agreement due to their failure to make progress in the South Sudan’s brokered peace talks.
On August 20, the Misseriya Zuruk, a nomadic herders group in the area, said that the SPLM-N al-Hilu looted 80 cows, killed two herders and captured nine others.
In his statement, Komi denied that SPLA forces had looted any cows, pointing out that the accusations were part of a campaign run by anti-SPLM-N groups.
The former regime formed a pro-government militia in South Kordofan under the name of Popular Defence Forces to wage war against the SPLA fighters in the area. After, the revolution, Gen al-Burhan changed its name to the Reserve Forces.
