Germany press charges against suspected Sudanese spy
March 12, 2008 (BERLIN) — Germany’s federal prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday it had charged a Sudanese man with spying on Sudanese opposition groups in Germany for Khartoum’s foreign intelligence service.
The 40-year-old man, identified as Acuil A., was arrested in October in Berlin and is accused of spying on the groups since July 2005, the office said in a statement.
The man infiltrated German-based Sudanese opposition groups and human rights organisations that operate in Sudan, it added.
“He also took part in many events organised by human rights activists which had to do with the political and humanitarian situation in Sudan,” the office said. “He received a regular salary for his spying activities.”
No further information could be provided at this time, the office added
