Sudanese President to attend AU summit in Libya on natural resources

KHARTOUM, Feb 21, 2004 (SUNA) — President of the Republic Omar al-Beshir, is due to take part in the African Union Summit scheduled on 27-28 February in Sirte, Libya, said Minister of Agriculture and Forests Dr Majdhub al-Khalifah.

The minister explained that he briefed President Al-Bashir on the outcome of the recent conference of the African Ministers of Agriculture and Water Resources, held recently in Libya to prepare for the said Summit.

Dr Majdhub said to SUNA the African Summit, which will be preceded by meeting of the African ministerial council, will focus on natural resources, food security, sustainable development and the New Partnership for Africa (NEPAD).

“Sudan’s strategy is based on exchange of experiences and establishing African cooperation institutions in the fields of agriculture and animal resources according to the national comprehensive strategy.” indicated the minister.
