March 23, 2008 (ABU DHABI) — The president of South Sudan Salva Kiir arrived in United Arab Emirates (UAE) for talks focusing on promoting Arab investment in Southern Sudan.

This is the first visit by Kiir to UAE and the first of its kind by a Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) chairman to the oil rich Arab country.
Kiir was accompanied by presidential adviser Masnour Khalid, Dr. Luka Byong minister of presidential affairs in government of Southern Sudan (GoSS), David Deng minister of transporation in GoSS, Kuwal Mauen minister of finance and planning in GoSS.
