Nuer and Shuluk Council condemns assassination attempt against FOUNDER of Selfdetermination Dr. Lam Akol, says any use of terrism by SPLM during transition unacceptable

The Nuer and Shuluk Council today condemned in the strongest terms the assassination attempt on 23.March against Sudan’s former Foreign Minister Dr. Lam Akol Ajawini in Malakal, Southern Sudan and the killing on 3 of a national security officer in Malakal.

The Council, in a statement read out by its President, Deng Tut Deng , expressed concern over recent reported terrorist activities and hostile rhetoric and emphasized that any resort to terrorist force as a means for dealing with the current differences within the SPLM is unacceptable.

Concerned and disappointed over the lack of progress in ameliorating the contention between the Old SPLM and New SPLM and over the non-functioning of the SPLM political body, which had an essential role in promoting the peace and reconciliation, the Council called upon all Southern Sudanese parties and the leaders of the SPLM to take concrete steps towards reaching a consensus agreement through inclusive dialogue without delay and call up on SPLM-SPLM Dialogue.

Further to the text, the Council condemned the increased inflow of SPLM terrorist into Malakal and the continuous violations of the CPA. It further reminded all SPLM factions of their obligations to comply fully with the measures stated in CPA, by which the Council first calls, and urged them to take all the necessary steps to hold violators accountable.

– “The Council welcomes the news that Lt. General Dr. Gaberial Tang Giny is taking the full responsibility of Greater Upper Nile security, and reaffirms our commitment to a comprehensive and lasting settlement of the situation in Southern Sudan and its respect for the leadership of our nationalist leader Lt. General Salva Kirr , territorial integrity, political independence and unity of Southern Sudanese, consistent with the purposes and principles of the Juba Unity and Declaration.
– The Council calls upon Upper Nile State Governor Brigadier General Gatluak Deng to take necessary measure for the security of Upper Nile State and to take concrete steps towards security through inclusive protection of politicians from SPLM terrorist activities without delay.
– The Council calls upon all the Southern Sudanese to provide their full and active support to President Lt. General Salva Kirr Mayardiit in this regard.
– The Council calls for those responsible to be held accountable. These are the activities of Mr. Pagan Amum, the SPLM Secretary General and Dr. Peter Aduok Nyaba who are only interested to divide the people of Upper Nile State.
– The Council calls up on US Government to put the SPLM in the list of terrorist and corrupt organizations.

In addition, the Council expressed its growing concern over the situation of 1 million Barri in a Kaji Kaji county, central Equatoria state of insecurity from SPLA or it stressed that improving the security to all Southern Sudanese in need is an essential component of durable peace and reconciliation.

The meeting began at 12:13 p.m. and adjourned at 12:26 p.m.
