Sudan’s intelligence chief backs Ethiopia’s stability

October 17, 2022 (ADDIS ABABA) – The Director of Sudan’s General Intelligence Service, Ahmed Ibrahim Mufadal on Saturday said the Khartoum government would not cooperate in activities that are likely harm the people and government of Ethiopia.

He made the remarks during a meeting with the Director General of Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service, Temsgen Tarouneh in the capital, Addis Ababa.

Mufadal highlighted the challenges facing the two nations, affirming Sudan’s adherence to its internationally recognised borders in accordance with the 1902 demarcation.

He said Sudan’s foreign relations and interests with its neighbors and all countries of the world are based on Sudan’s strategic interests, not at the expense of other countries in the region, indicating that dialogue is the best way to reach common benefits and interests.

Mafadal denied existence of the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) camps in Sudan, adding that Khartoum will work with Ethiopia to combat terrorism and organised crime.

For his part, Temsgen said they will work with Sudan to resolve existing problems.

The two officials, ENA reported, discussed security issues and reached an agreement about matters to be worked on between the intelligence institutions.

During the meeting, the intelligence agencies of Sudan and Ethiopia agreed to bolster security cooperation to counter-pressing peace and security challenges in the region.
