SPLM-N Hilu releases two health workers

October 27, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu Thursday released two health workers after six-month detention in South Kordofan.

The two workers were part of a five-member measles vaccination team captured by the SPLM-N in the Abu Karshula locality in the Nuba Mountains area on March 5, 2022. S

In a short statement, UNITAMS announced the evacuation of the two women who were detained in the SPLM-N-controlled areas

“Special Representative of the Secretary-General Volker Perthes thanks Abdel-Aziz al-Hilu for agreeing to their release, and the Government of Sudan for their cooperation with the UN. The two women are now with their families,” stated the mission.

“The two sisters Manar and Batoul Ibrahim Abdallah arrived in El Obeid city after being evacuated by a UN plane from the areas held by  SPLM-N in the Nuba Mountains area,” Osman Yacoub, a relative of the abductees, told Sudan Tribune.

Three other health workers are still in captivity: Wali al-Din Altom, Khalil Mohamed Musa and Mohamed Aldouma Abul-Qasim.

The SPLM-N did not comment on the detention of the health workers.

In the past, the holdout groups accused the Sudanese military intelligence service of sending health and humanitarian worker to the “liberated areas”.

On October 15, the SPLM-N released nine members affiliated with a local militia of the Sudanese army captured on 10 August.
