Eritreans in Sudan donate $13mln for homeland development
April 3, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — Eritrean nationals living in Sudan donated 13 millions USD to their country, they also reiterated their commitment to backup economic development in Eritrea.
Eritreans living in Sudan reaffirmed their readiness to support the development plans in their country. They donated 27 million Sudanese pounds ($13 millions) in a meeting held this week in Khartoum, said the Eritrean Ambassador to Sudan Issa Ahmed Issa.
The official Shabait reported that Issa briefed the participants in a public meeting about the “objective situation in the Homeland” and the efforts exercised by his government to promote peace in the region.
Eritrea a long time foe of the Sudanese government, is now participating in regional efforts to seal a lasting peace in Darfur with Egypt and Libya. Asmara had led a successful mediation to put an end to the eastern Sudan conflict last year.
The neighbouring country tries nowadays to diffuse tension and to mend relations between Sudan.
However Sudanese political forces are anxious by the current border row between Asmara and Addis Ababa. They are also frustrated by the intransigence of Asmara which refuses any talks before the implementation of Algiers Agreement.
The two partners of the government of national unity in Khartoum approached Asmara offering mediation but Eritrea rejected their offer.

Iam amazed by the cooperation from Eritreans. If Eritreans in Sudan can donate $13 million dollars for homeland development, what made it so hard for Sudanese living in abroad to contribute even a million for the orphans and the widows?
I wish our people can develop patriotism being displayed by one of the smallest country in Africa. If they were not united, Ethiopia would have crushed them long time ago. Guys we need to be organize and behave like Eritreans.
