Czech republic to donate 5 mln crowns to Darfur refugees
April 4, 2008 (PRAGUE) — The Czech Republic will provide 5 million crowns (0.3 million U.S. dollars) to help refugees in the Darfur region, western Sudan, the Foreign Ministry said on its website Friday.
The aid will be provided through the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to people who have been forced to flee their homes by the chronic civil war in Darfur.
Since 2006, the United Nations has sent a great number of humanitarian workers to the region, who have saved many lives and managed to prevent large epidemics in the refugee camps.
The Czech government has provided humanitarian aid to Darfur worth 10 million crowns (0.6 million U.S. dollars).
