The US Charge d’affaires in Khartoum, Alberto Fernandez, has stressed that his country is not striving to interfere in Sudan’s affairs but that it is concerned for the stability of Abyei and wanted to help implement the peace agreement.
During a meeting yesterday with leaders of the Misiryyah tribe in Al-Mujlad he said that both the [former rebel] Sudan People’s Liberation Movement and Government [ruling National Congress Party] were violating the peace agreement and that this was reflected in incidents occurring in the area.
