Conference on Darfur conflict to be held by end of March
KHARTOUM, Feb 24, 2004 (Sudan Tribune) — The President of the republic, Omar al-Beshir, has stressed that the national reconciliation conference for peace, development and co-existence in Darfur will be held before the end of March.
The President added that the conference will receive the care and patronage of the state.
This came today when he addressed the first meeting of the higher national committee in charge of organizing the conference at the cabinet.
Al-Beshir said that the people of Darfur were capable of resolving the problem in the region.
He further added that the resources of the state would be put at the disposal of this committee in order to overcome all the barriers which affect it, so as to make the reconciliation conference arrive at suitable solutions able to restore peace and stability in Darfur.
Al-Beshir had recently issued a republican decree, calling for the establishment of higher national committee, appointing IzzalDin al-Sayyid as its chairman.
