Sudan’s al-Burhan congratulates Netanyahu for his election in Israel
November 14, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Head of the military-led Sovereign Council in Sudan congratulated Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu for the victory of his party paving the way for his comeback as prime minister in Israel.
On November 13, Israel’s President Isaac Herzog mandated Netanyahu to form a new government following the victory of the right alliance in the legislative election.
On Monday, his office stated that al-Burhan congratulated Israel’s longest-serving leader for his election win.
“I congratulate you on your election victory and look forward to continuing our cooperation to promote relations in all areas for the benefit of peoples in the two countries,” al-Burhan wrote, according to a statement released by Netanyahu’s office.
Burhan and Netanyahu met in Uganda on February 3, 2020.
The two leaders agreed to normalize relations between the two countries but the political instability in Sudan impeded the implementation of the Abraham Accords signed by the two countries.
Nonetheless, the two countries developed security and military cooperation as military officials met several times.
In February 2022, General al-Burhan confirmed the military cooperation but underscored the lack of political relations between the two countries.
Last September, he said willing to visit Israel, if he is officially invited by its government.
