South Sudan’s Kiir sacks Warrap State governor, minister
November 16, 2022 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir has sacked Warrap State Governor Aleu Ayieny Aleu, appointing Manheim Bol Malek as his immediate successor.
The order was read on the state-owned television (SSBC) on Wednesday.
Aleu, a close ally of President Kiir, was appointed governor on January 28, 2021.
The decree, however, cited no reasons to justify the removal of the governor.
Kiir, in another decree, sacked Humanitarian Affairs minister, Peter Mayen Majongdit.
Majongdit is the leader of the People’s Liberal Party (PLP). PLP is of the umbrella members of the Other Political Parties (OPP), a coalition of non-armed political organisations signatory to the September 2018 revitalised peace agreement.
