Five killed, 15 others wounded in Warrap State clashes: official

November 20, 2022 (TONJ EAST) – At least five people have been killed and 15 other wounded in clashes between youth in Warrap State, an official confirmed.

The incident reportedly occurred at Luac-Jang, Tonj East County of Warrap State.

The state information minister, William Wol Mayom said the elopement of a young girl triggered fierce clashes between sections of the Kuok and the Abuong.

“That fighting took place on Sunday morning and ended at around 12:00pm and in the incident, five people were confirmed dead and 15 wounded,” he stated.

Wol said those wounded were rushed to Marialou hospital for treatment.

The minister said Warrap state authorities had dispatched high-level security forces, comprising of police and other organised forces to contain the situation.

“The people have started returning back to their cattle camps after the communities in both areas immediately convened an intervention meeting on Sunday in which people agreed to return to their cattle camps,” stressed Wol.

The incident occurred days after the state governor, Aleu Ayieny Aleu was sacked.

In 2017, a similar incident occurred between the two sections of Wun-Thuc and Wun-Adel led to the death of 46 people.
