Sudan releases three former military detained over establishiment of armed group

November 20, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – Military Intelligence released the former retired officers who established an armed to defend the rights of northern and central Sudan and called to cancel the Juba peace agreement.

On November 13, former Sudanese army Spokesman and retired Colonel Khalid Alswarmi held a press conference to announce the Patriotic Entity Forces (PEF). He added that retired Colonel Mohamed Rahmatallah is the leader of the group and he is the commander in chief.

The next day, the two former officers and a third one, Aljaili Mohamed Salman were arrested by the military intelligence service.

The PEF Spokesman Alwalid Gandhi Ibrahim confirmed to Sudan Tribune that Rahmatallah, Alswarmi and Salman were released six days after their detention.

Ibrahim added the military services held them for interrogation but he refused to elaborate on the investigation.

At the time, military sources told Sudan Tribune that the military intelligence held them for investigation, given that the declaration of an armed entity is a threat to national security and was considered a rebellion.

At the press conference, Alswarmi said they have retired and active members in the Sudanese army.

Alsawarmi and Rahmatallah are Islamists. However, the latter said he had no link with the movement after his dismissal from the army in 2012; because he had been suspected of planning with other a coup attempt.
