Riyadh, Khartoum set up political consultation committee.

RIYADH, Feb 24 (AFP) — Saudi Arabia and Sudan signed on Tuesday an agreement to set up a political coordination committee during a visit here by Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Othman Ismail, the official SPA news agency said.

The memorandum of understanding setting up a “follow-up and political consultation committee” was inked by Ismail and Saudi counterpart Prince Saud al-Faisal, it said.

The agreement provides for “constant coordination between the two foreign ministries” in the interest of both countries and with the aim of promoting joint Arab action, Prince Saud said.

Ismail also met with King Fahd, to whom he delivered a message from Sudanese President Omar al-Beshir, SPA said without revealing its content.

Sudan’s ambassador in Riyadh Othman Dardiri told AFP the Saudi and Sudanese chief diplomats, who co-chair the new committee, discussed recent developments in the Arab world and contacts under way to prepare for the Arab summit due to be held in Tunis on March 29-30.
