BREAKING NEWS: LRA Kony delays signing deal, wants clarification

April 10, 2008 (RI-KWANGBA) — Uganda’s fugitive rebel commander Joseph Kony will not sign a final peace deal with the government on Thursday, the chief mediator said.

“It looks like we are not going to have a signature today,” South Sudan’s Vice President Riek Machar told Reuters, adding the leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) told him he was ready to sign, but wanted clarification on two issues.

They are the alternative justice mechanisms that Uganda’s government plans to use to deal with crimes committed during the civil war, in place of prosecution by the International Criminal Court (ICC), which has issued warrants for Kony and two deputies.

“I have dispatched a team of elders to go and explain it to him, and I will also hold a brief meeting with him later today or tomorrow morning,” Machar said.

Kony’s 22-year rebellion killed tens of thousands of people, uprooted 2 million more in northern Uganda and also destabilised neighbouring parts of southern Sudan and eastern Congo.

ICC prosecutors accuse LRA commanders of multiple war crimes including rape, murder and the abduction of thousands of children. The rebels have vowed never to disarm until the indictments are scrapped.

This is a burning issue that the whole world including the victims of these attrocities have been longing for. but now that the contro
versy and lack of seriousity is entirely on the LRA leadership, then nothing is going to be reap out. my sympathy remains boiling on the Acholi in the IDP camps that one day they will be free and join hands with thier tribe mate Kony.

Kony will never come out of the bush unless the indictment imposed by ICC is withdrawn, or if he signs eventaully there will be no implimentation at all since he is not ready to disarm his boys.
What we love to achieve is seeing him come out of the bush and join his people to begin a new life.

BREAKING NEWS: LRA Kony delays signing deal, wants clarification
What remains in the Uganda’s fugitive Kony is nothing more than just he can breath and speak but emotionally his heart and psychological setup is now completely broken down.Instant solutions Kony needs deep counselling and final hope for his movement and the people of Northern Uganda and Southern Sudan.People may have rights to cast doubts over Kony’s personel decisions to change signig dates from 5th to 10th again to 11th etc. as he wishes. So that as before he had external support to wage his gorrilla war,the same might happen to wave away new thoughts of peaceful mind at the last hours to ink out the last moments of suffering to Uganda and Southern Sudan. The 10th of April 2008 must be remembered by the international community and Africa that World’s diplomats etc, spend that night in the jungles of western Equatoria state of Southern Sudan only for that shake. If Kony do not care about the symphathy of others why not him pity the condition of his own kinsmen including his mother who are eager attending to witness this historic ceremony in the bush to meet once again when they separated over two decades.
