Egypt prepared to supply Sudan with electricity: envoy

January 4, 2023 (KHARTOUM) – Egypt is fully prepared to supply Sudan with all the electricity needs, its Ambassador to Khartoum, Hani Salah disclosed.

The envoy made the remarks while speaking at a farewell occasion for the outgoing Egyptian Consul General in Sudan, Ahmed Adly on Wednesday.

A number of dignitaries attended the ceremony which was organized by the Ankara Center for Services in Dosa Hall in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum.

Speaking at the occasion, Ambassador Salah said Egypt currently supplies Sudan with 80 megawatts and is working to increase it to 1,000 megawatts.

This, he said, would be achieved after installation of transformers and making technical modifications in the internal networks within the country.

The Egyptian envoy also hinted on the agreement between Egypt and Sudan to complete the project of Aswan, Abu Simbel and Khartoum in the next 5-7 years, stressing that the coming period will witness cultural, artistic, sports activity and exchange of visits between both national at all levels.

Electricity production in Egypt reached 22,524 megawatts in August 2022, compared with 21,228 megawatts in the previous months, according to the global data, CIEC
