Over 20 killed in new clashes between South Sudan army and Misseriya

April 25, 2008 (KHARTOUM) – More than 20 people have been killed by the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in clashes with the Misseriya tribe in the border between South Kordofan and Unity States, SPLA and pro-northern Sudan ruling party media reported.

SPLA_soldier_poses.jpgSouthern Sudan army Maj. Gen. James Hoth told Reuters that SPLA killed 29 tribesmen. Two members of the Misseriya tribe were killed in a morning battle on Thursday and 27 tribesmen died in a second attack on the southern army’s position near the vital Heglig oil fields.

However, the Sudanese Media Centre (SMC) said 22 Misseriya and 2 Sudan Armed Forces soldiers were killed.

Hoth further said no southern soldiers were killed. “We sustained six wounded with none dead,” told Reuters.

He said that before fighting began, Misseriya representatives had asked the southern forces to move out of the area, which they consider part of northern Sudan.

Clashes broke out after disagreements about the work of the census takers who arrived to the area from South Kordofan and Unity states to conduct population counting, the SMC reported.

A series of similar clashes between armed Misseriya groups and the southern army further west along the north-south border killed dozens earlier this year, clouding north-south relations.

The timing of the new attack is especially sensitive because of the first census since 1993, which is seen as a key step towards next year’s elections. Misseriya representatives could not be reached for comment.

ha ha ha that is not a killing it’s a lession of telling those Misseriya tribe suppoted by Beshir that the area is particular part of South and that should be under SPLA control i can blame our leader for his decision on the census because right now we have not clear view about the issue of Abeyi including it’s people. The policy lead by Beshir since he come to his religion and genocide power has lead to lost of lives, and i would recommand that he should be seen by ICC to face the charges before any other actions, those blood of South and Sudan as general has been flowing for long and we beleive that their conclusion is on the way to stop.for the safety of Misseriya tribe, they should stay far from cruel policy as been passed to them by their master known as “sadist”.

keep the spirit SPLA our land is our future

Thank you SPLA for mission well done
Its unfortunate to have people killed but i beleve the peoples army was acting in self defence and in their juisdiction of defending the sovereign land of South Sudan from any aggression be it from the North or any hostile powers to South Sudanese masses.

May God bless the souls of our martyrs begining with General Tafeng uprising of Torit in 1955 to the recent clashes with our enemy ….

My apologies if am being too South Sudanese in comments but that is the reality in Sudan. You’re either with them or us, the President Bush style …

Look how clever the Khartoum is… only to mention few which we already know it is not other than sudan armed forces dressed in misseriya atire to fight the everwatchful SPLA not southern army to correct my freind. They did this in the case of disguising helicopters marking them UN-only to go and carryout massive attack in Darfur. Also if this is not wolf in sheep skin why donn,t they say something to stop misseriya and furthermore when did the border become tribal issue?.SPLA should be watchful.

Why are the SAF fighting along side miseriya tribe men?. The killing of 2 SAF
is a clear indication that the SPLA is fighting SAF and not the Miseriya tribesmen. SPLA defend the borderline that is yours. There is no cheating this time around.

I will start with what the first fellow commentator said “keep the spirit SPLA our land is our future”. This is absolutely the point. These people – I mean the manipulative Jalaba – have seized the power and the wealth of Sudan for more than 50 decades – since independence 1956 – yet, they want to rob us off our lands. For sake of GOD who on earth they think they are. South Sudan, Darfur and East Sudan – I mean the non-arab whom we consider the true Sudanese – will not keep silent or stay idle anymore. It is about time all of us speak out and stand up for our rights. Believe it or not this is last Jalaba government in Sudan. Change is underway. The world has changed following the globalization but the retroactive mentally of Jalaba failed to cope with the modern reality. They think Sudan is their property and that it is absolutely up to them to kill or pardon any citizen of Sudan. But these have become just dreams for them. Keep holding on rights unabated, brothers, and we will conquer them. John Garang’s legacy will live on. Long life SPLM, Long life SLA/M-Nur and long life freedom lovers allover the Sudan.
