Ethiopia’s PM objects to politicizing Olympics
April 25, 2008 (ADDIS ABABA) — Ethiopia on Friday voiced its strong objections to linking the Olympic Games with politics, saying that the Beijing Olympics is very important for both China and the rest of the world.
During his talks with Fu Sihe, head of a visiting delegation of the Organizational Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi expressed his country’s steadfast solidarity with China on the Tibet issue and the Beijing Olympics.
Meles said the Tibet issue is an internal affair of China, adding that any external force has no right to interfere in it.
“Ethiopia strongly opposes any external force’s attempts to destroy China’s national unity and create hatred among Chinese nationalities,” he said.
Meles also wished the Beijing Olympics a great success.
For his part, Fu said China thanked Ethiopia for its valuable support on issues like Tibet and the Beijing Olympics.
At the invitation of the ruling Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), Fu and his entourage arrived here Wednesday evening for a two-day visit.
