Christians pray Juba for SPLA unity

By Isaac Vuni

April 27, 2008 (JUBA) — More than six hundreds Christians from Episcopal Church of the Sudan (ECS), led by Rt. Rev. Nataniel Garang Anyieth, Provincial Dean of ECS and Bishop of Bor Diocese, last Friday held prayer for peace and unity within SPLA officers in the military headquarters in Juba.

ECS_mobile_prayer_group.jpgRev. Anyieth made these comments during a prayer service at SSLA premises organized by mobile ECS revival groups currently visiting Juba, the capital of Southern Sudan.

The Bishop noted that southern Sudanese people are participating and managing for the first time Sudan national population and housing census, since creation of the Sudan.
Therefore it’s important to commit their services to God the almighty for better result and future planning for the development of war ravaged southern Sudan.

The Rt. Rev. Anyieth emphasized that it’s the responsibility of SPLA forces to guarantee and protect the Comprehensive Peace Agreement that has ushered the right to be counted by sons and daughters from Southern Sudan, and to the election and referendum in 2011.

Right Reverend reaffirmed ECS Church commitment to continuously preaching for unity among people of Sudan particularly south in order to avoid revenge resulting from bitterness they encored against each other during the liberation struggle that ended with signing of the comprehensive peace agreement on 9th January 2005.

He also revealed that the ECS mobile group had recently been in Rumbek town for prayer targeting civil and religious leaders to be guided by the Holy Spirit and the power of God in discharging their leadership on the people under their protection.

Earlier the Southern Sudan Assembly Director for Public Relation, Information and Protocol affairs, Paul Yoane Bonju welcomed the Bishops and the mobile faith group on behalf of the assembly. He thanked the church for always being concern for its faithful regardless of their status in the community.
