Salva Kiir leads Sudanese delegation to donor conference

May 1, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — Salva Kiir Myardit First Vice President of the Republic, President of the Government of Southern will fly next Sunday the Norwegian capital of Oslo leading the Sudanese delegation to donor conference.

FVP_Salva_Kiir.jpgThe purpose of the Sudan Consortium is to provide a forum for an annual review of progress in implementing the social and economic aspects of Sudan’s 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).

The Consortium is jointly-chaired by the Government of National Unity and the Government of Southern Sudan.

The official opening of the Sudan Consortium will be on 6 May, followed by a Pledging session on 7 May. Participants will discuss efforts towards sustainable peace in Darfur in a closed doors session on the first pre-meeting day of the Consortium.

The participants will be briefed on the Sudanese government position towards the implementation of the MDGs in the various domains related to good governance and the private sector and the current situation in Darfur.

Tijani Fadil Saleh, Minister of International Cooperation and member delegation to the conference said that the opening session will be addressed by the First Vice President and representatives of the donor countries. He further said member of the delegation Sayed Al Khateeb will present a paper on the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, and other paper on the priorities of the Five-Year Plan (2008 – 2011) in joint projects between the North and the south.

He pointed out that these projects are focused on infrastructure, roads, railway, which links the North-South , followed by pledges from donor and their contributions in support of the projects submitted

The minister said the Sudanese delegation at the conference will focus on the slowness of donors to fulfil their obligations and address the problems faced the execution.

The delegation includes Minister of International Cooperation and Minister of Finance and two ministers from the government of southern Sudan and technical delegation.
