President Kiir directs aides to discuss Sudan’s peace review with FFC

January 25, 2023 (KHARTOUM) – President Salva Kiir tasked the South Sudanese mediation team to discuss the review of the Juba agreement for peace in Sudan with the Forces for Freedom and Changes.

The visiting FFC delegation on Wednesday discussed with President Kiir the ongoing political process in Sudan and their plans to review the pact negotiated by the Sudanese parties in Juba.

Following the meeting with the pro-democracy groups, Secretary General of the Mediation Team for Sudan’s Peace Talks, Dhieu Mathok told reporters that the meeting the political stability in the Sudan.

“President Salva Kiir directed the (Mediation Team) led by Tut Gatluak to meet with the Sudanese delegation and evaluate the Juba peace agreement,” further reads a statement released by the South Sudanese presidency.

Member of the Sovereign Council and leader of the Sudanese Revolutionary Forces Hadi Idris met President Kiir in Juba on January 21 to discuss Juba mediated peace deal and the framework agreement to restore the transitional civilian government.

Idris extended to President Kiir an invitation for his government to participate in the peace review conference which is scheduled for January 31.

The signatories to the framework agreement say the non-signatories told Juba that the review process means cancelling the deal.

In a statement released in Khartoum, the FFC said that the visiting delegation extensively briefed President Kiir about the political process to restore the civilian-led transition in Sudan.

The FFC delegation further thanked “President Salva Kiir, his government and the people of South Sudan for the great role that he has been playing for the security, peace, stability and progress of the two peoples,” further added the statement.
