Sudanese presidency sends condolence delegation to Juba
May 3, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — A delegation from the Presidency of the Republic headed by General Abdel-Rahim Mohamed Hussein, with a number of ministers and advisers arrived today to Juba to present the condolences of the presidency to the victims of the plane crash.
The members of the delegation convoyed the condolences of the President Omer al-Bashir, Vice-President Ali Osman Taha and all the components of the Government of National Unity.
The delegation met the First Vice-President of the Republic and President of the Government of southern Sudan, Salva Kiir Myardit, who praised the participation of the Government of National Unity with Government of the South in their pain following the lost of two key members in the plane crash of Friday.
Salva Kiir expressed his thanks to the President and all members of the Government of National Unity who “stand with us at this moment where we lost the most prominent sons of nation in one day.” He said.
The president of southern Sudan enlightened the delegation on steps taken to secure the crash site and to preserve the aircraft wreckages so that the investigation committee can conduct its probe on the causes of the crash.
Kiir further explained that his government is reconsidering methods of aviation testing related to air safety.
Gabriel Changson Chan, the southern Sudanese minister of information and GoSS spokesperson, said that the government believes the plane crashed for technical reasons.
Friday crash claimed the lives of Justin Yak Arop, a presidential adviser on decentralization, and Lt. General Dominic Dim Deng, the minister of southern Sudan armed forces.
In the same time, at the headquarters of the SPLM in Khartoum, Vice President Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, this morning presented his condolences to the SPLM leadership in the Sudanese capital.
Also an important number of the government ministers, the National Congress Party members and the Sudanese opposition parties as well as representative of the press and the civil society convoyed their condolences on the lost of the two members of southern Sudan government.
