February 12, 2023 (DURBAN) – Sudan and South Sudan have agreed to reactivate joint agreements and memoranda of understanding signed by the two countries in the field of mining.

This came during a meeting the Sudanese delegation held on the sidelines of the African Mining Indaba Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Minerals in Sudan, Mohamed Saeed Zainal-Abidin affirmed that the next stage would witness exchange of experiences and building of geological cadres through training in Sudan.

He further disclosed that his ministry has distinguished relations with South Sudan, which contributes to the development of technical relations.

South Sudan’s Mining minister, Martin Abucha said he was optimistic several companies would arrive in Juba to invest in the sector after the conference.

“As a mining institution, we are indeed exposing South Sudan to other investors who are interested to invest in South Sudan. We are telling them exactly what we have in South Sudan, the opportunities that exist, and how they can come in. Of course, our investment laws are very friendly,” he explained.

The undersecretary in South Sudan’s Mining ministry, Cosmas Pitia Kujjo stressed the necessity to find ways to develop technical laboratories and modernize equipment operating in the young nation.

He hailed the strong relations between both countries in the mining sector.

The conference, under the theme ‘Unlocking African Mining Investment: Stability, Security, and Supply’, took place in Cape Town from February 6-9.
