Sudanese troops parade with rebels’ vehicles in Khartoum

May 10, 2008 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese forces since the end of the day paraded in the streets of the capital’s twin city, Omdurman, with the Justice and Equality Movement vehicles to reassure the local population and show that they are in total control of the situation.

JEM_troops_ride-2.jpgState-run Sudan TV is playing non-stop footage of the security forces composed of the regular army, the police, and the security service troops as well as the militias riding the captured vehicles of JEM full of weapons and ammunitions.

The Sudanese TV also aired footage of burnt vehicles and bodies lying of the ground of JEM fighters killed by the Sudanese troops in the street of Omdurman.

Further, many arrested JEM elements were showed on the TV confessing that they were trained in Chad and embarked to Khartoum through the desert. The Sudan Television was keen to focus on the young JEM elements arrested following the foiled attack.

One of the captured vehicles was full of documents about the operation, number of vehicles and military objectives.

The elements of the Sudanese security service were very present in the military operations and seemed playing a leading role in the confrontation against the rebel troops.

Also, the assailant troops were always described as “mercenaries and agents of the Chadian regime.”
