SPLM to replace defeated governors in South Sudan – Wani

By Isaac Vuni

May 11, 2008 (JUBA) — The SPLM Deputy Chairman and Speaker of Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly, James Wani Igga, today, stated that all the unpopular SPLM states Governors, Secretaries and Commissioners who lost their positions during state congresses would not automatically be replace.

However, Wani emphasized that decision to replace unpopular Governors who have lost in a democratic election processes would entirely rest upon President Salva Kiir Mayardit. While for the SPLM state Secretaries and Commissioners are the responsibilities of states Governors’ in collaboration with SPLM secretariat headquarters.

Governor Alosio Emor Ojetuk of Eastern Equatoria state and Governor Taban Deng Gai of Unity state have lost their positions in a fair and democratic SPLM state congress elections respectively. Communities from Eastern Equatoria and Unity states have several times petitioned President Kiir for removal of Governors Ojetuk and Gai but no action was taken by GoSS president.

This time round, the SPLM primaries have passed their verdicts on who are their most wanted and respected leaders that would satire them through the national election of 2009 and on to referendum of 2011 respectively.

Wani regrettably observed that 30% of SPLM counties commissioners have lost their positions in the election was a matter of great concern to SPLM party, and that it symbolizes that the party is not popular at grass root levels because those entrusted have failed to deliver the right message to the people and if not corrected soon, it will greatly backfired during the coming election that will be contested by all Sudan registered political parties.

For instance in Eastern Equatoria state the eight commissioners lost their position with Magwi County that has not conducted any grassroots election, Commissioner Emilio Igga decided to handpick people who could not even pass a grassroots election at Boma level such as elder Angelo Vuga and Jerem Surur among others and opted to block progressive and aspiring SPLM representation from the seven locations of Madi area for their families and friends.

Wani said Unity of Greater Equaoria is paramount for capturing leadership position during the forth coming second SPLM national convention.

“Tribalism must be fought at all level in order to realize cohesiveness of southern Sudanese particularly among greater Equatoria.” The delegates from Eastern and Western Equatoria observed that central Equatoria state have cheated them by getting six ministerial positions in Southern Sudan government Dr. Luka Monoja, minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Samson Kwaje minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Mrs. Mary Kiden Kimbo, Minister of Gender, Social Service and Religious Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lumoro, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Philip Yona Jambi, minister of Cooperative and Agnes Lokudu, minister of tourism and environment. Meanwhile Western Equatoria have two and Eastern Equatoria only one.

The southern Sudan speaker further observed that tribalism and corruption are major vices within the young government of southern that requires full participation of cross section of southern Sudanese to effectively minimize. Otherwise, he warned that Southern Sudan is surrounded by the most corrupt countries of the world with Kenya being number three and Uganda number four.

“If you are not committed to the SPLM vision, mission and Objective, better forget about being elected to the leadership position, because the people will discover you and your intension,” Wani warned.

SPLM SUPPORT IN NORTHERN SUDAN

He went on revealing that SPLM as a national political party has gained support from the people of northern Sudan and we are going to concentrate more in the central Sudan in order to capture the top position of the country.

“We better allied with the devil that will support the implementation of the CPA than allying with an Angel who will destroy the CPA and consequently bury the aspiration of the marginalized Sudanese”, he stressed.

Last April Wani toured several states in northern Sudan with SPLM Deputy Secretary General Yasir Arman and Dr Tabitha Boutros, Sudan’s Federal Minister of Health.

In his orientation programme, Wani stated that the SPLM national chairman position will be elected by the whole 1520 delegates including that of the Deputy Chairperson of which he is a contested with Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

Whereas the national secretariat including SPLM secretary General would be elected by 250 members of the National Liberation Council along with four deputies:-
SPLM Secretary General,
SPLM Deputy Secretary General for Southern Sudan sector,
SPLM Deputy Secretary General for Northern Sudan sector,
SPLM Deputy Secretary General for Economy affair and,
SPLM Deputy Secretary General for National treasurer.

The will of the people of South Sudan must prevail. Therefore, those who lost leadership positions through an election must go. The people have spoken and no one can overturn that decision. The |Governor of Eastern Equatoria and the Governor of Western Upper Nile must concede defeat. They can try again later through another election.

The SPlM Deputy Chairman is absolutely right those who have lost their postions during the congreses at grass roots level should be replaced. but those preliminary election were rather selections in some areas. for instants in so many counties commissioners have just selected their sycophants who only know how to vote for their intrests and this how many Governors and commissioners retained their positons Through unfair and unfree elections. We in the SPLM need to open our eyes clearly before the population of southern sudan throw us away during general election becaus of wrong doing of the some of those governors and commissioners.

What Mr. Wani addressed, it’s absolutely right but he forgotten to mention about corruption and how the current governor of WES got the post? and who did she competed with at the state convention in order to get the post that she is claim as governor? Mrs. Nunu flew with sum of $200,000 from Yambio to Juba after bribes people not to vote her out and excluded some people out not to attend the state convention without proper reason. Just to secure the post, now there are some people from Moundri community on the way to Juba to get their ratio from Mrs. Nunu that she promised them. I’m urging our SPLM Party and members to pursue this issue seriously in order to safe the interest of our Party and our reputation as ruling Party, if we decide to protect individually simply because personally relationship and ignore public complains that will be like political commit suicide. I suggest GOSS or Mr. Salva should give WES to re-elect their governor in order to secure our reputation SPLM/A and this will be an example in the future for any allegation against our Party. Justice applied when the two parties convince and this is what most people wanted.

SPLM to replace defeated governors in South Sudan – Wani
    Hi Readers:

James Wani’s idea is not only wrong, but dangerous to the southsudan political life. People of Southsudan had never exercised their freedom of choice since the creation of the world, and this is exactly what took us to the bushe for twenty two years such that we get to the room of freedom where every citizen has voice to pick who want to rule him or not.

James Wani should not try to introduce dictatorial principles where few number of elements are retained to maintaince party rule. People of Southsudan don’t want to be ruled by fear or force of imposing leaders who are not of their choice.

Wani should remember that, all he said are pure words uttered by dictators and totalitarians whom we sometimes used to called regime as the one in Khartoum that we complaint about for decades.

For the expected respect for the masses of Southsudan, those who have been defeated must hand over power in peace and those who are elected must be observed and encouraged to follow party rules and objectives of SPLM/A for the benefit of the people of Southsudan. Those who are found with weakness and incompetencies will be automatically sacked like everybody else in the past for us to avoid unnecessary wrangling.

We are not here to help those who are defeated or newly elected, but to set a genuine rule for the lives of forthcoming generations through fare and free elections, and the beginning is now.

Therefore, some of us are politely ask James Wani to reverse his decision for the sake of southsudan political future, and for the fact that Southsudan is not monarchal by the way as it’s obviously shows by the nature of its diverse creation.

I hope James Wani read and take my advice for his own good and for the good of southerners.

    God bless.

Eastern Equatorians< thans for voting Governer Ojetuk out!!!!! It has been long a waited thing but you have shown to the governor that we can also remove you in the name of democracy, which you have done, good work. Governor Ojetuk has been one of the worse governors ever, in leading the atrocities in the state, involving in tribal issues, sidelining with his own village, neglected his role as the state governor. Till now Ojetuk has never visited some counties on an official state mission, that is why the people at the grassroot failed to understand the vesion and objectives of the SPLM, Counties like Kapoeta North, Lopa, have never been visited by the governor till date, he only visited a village in Lopa county,Olongo on the 9th of oct 2006,an area boardering Torit for his fallacy, on the one topic of cattle rusttling which has failed, so whom a part from him do you think could have been the best to do that Job of enlighteening the villagers about what the SPLM are up for?, up to now if I am not mistaken, many people in Eastern Equatoria even within Torit town are not aware of what is happening, others even didn't know whether there is peace(the so-called CPA) on the ground, it is really very amusing story, and to make matters worse, the person who could have done part of his work is the state secretary, but this one is also nailed with Sophisticated ignorance of the highest order, doing things contrary to the people's will. This same SPLM state secretary, has nothing in mind only ending with his work at home and in the office, how will the people at the grassroots vote for you and know much about you, he is too un qualified for the job, otherwise, the people of stae should look for other prominent pesons with good government ethics and working skills, this state secretary only succeeds in employng his relatives and the obvious thing is that; when you employ your relatives, the probability that the output of your work is going to be high is Zero because you are employing the incompetece people, of which many have never gone to school, but succeeded in buying degrees from Nairobi, and ask yourself a question that: what kind of work do they provide and what is the nature of their skills?, many of these guys are pilled at the SPLM Secretariat office. Governor Ojetuk also succeded in making Tribalism, villagism and hatred in Eastern Equatoria, but nothing good has been realized from his fruitless regime. It has been something the Easterners were looking for, for so long, but finally, they have shown it, good work my brothers. If you can also see the nature of his cabinet, you will believe what Wani has said and notice that, corruption in SPLM leadership is every where, in his ministerial posistions, there is no single minister from counties like Lopa, Ikotos and may be with some few from Magwi, yet these are counties with highly educated personel like any other county in Eastern Equatoria, whom do you think is responsible for that?, Is Ojetuk, and In SPLM is Salva Kiir. Ojetuk and Salva have some hiden agenda or elations, if not looked at carefully, Salva can surprise you by saying that he will not change Ojetuk, because all are birds of the same feathers. But this time, we as Easterners shall not give room for sentiment, we are tired of Ojetuk and he must go forever with his evil acts and his ill fated leadership. Finally, the people of the state should watch out with him since he is a wounded lion, he will smuggle all the state funs for his future survival, otherwise an extra care should be taken for Ojetuk within this remaining months, to make matters worse, the minister of finance in the state is another easy and no work man, they can play cheat politic and foul plays to deal away with the state finace & other public funs as he did with the ousted Muras. Members of parliarment, take care of this issue. The writer is the concerned Easterner in the Middle East. Please, if you have anything to raise or comment on this article, contact me and I will tell you more about OJETUK V EASTERN EQUATORIA STATE. I Can be reached at: [email protected]

SPLM to replace defeated governors in South Sudan – Wani
    Dear Southerners,
I will never agree with the statements of Wani Igga, that the unpopular State Governors who have lost their positions, shouldn’t be removed automatically, or the President will be the one to decide. Now what exactly is this?.We have been hearing the preachings of the President and Wani about democracy as being the main objective of SPLM/A, a fact which made them to go to war with the north for two decades just because the northern governement has never been in position to make secular laws to flourish in Sudan.

Now CPA, which contains text where democratic governance is almost the topic. But the contrary preaching of democracy is trying to relapse us back. What is wrong with you our leaders?. Why don’t you mean what you have said?.Please, SPLM, as our southern big political Party, has been derailed by these unpopular People, that is why the grassroots have uprooted them and therefore you have to respect the demands of these innocent civilians, who even gain nothing from these leaders or the incoming ones. But what want them to feel happy, is through their participations from the local governments during elections.

Let the president decree, then he will only be burring the popularity of the SPLM, Party at the local levels through these people. Or else, it will be useless to conduct elections at Payams, Boma, States congresses, but continue to appoint your yes men, a thing featured by dictatorial regimes in the World.

Eastern Equatoria, Governor and SPLM Secretary, Commissioners, are nothing but segregative, basing on Villagism, Clanism, tribalistic and the like. To bear withness with me, those from the State of Eastern Equatoria have known what is on the ground. When you go to the office of Splm escretariats, you will find people from the same Village, where the boss comes from. The Governor’s Commissioner’s are the same . But when you ask another person from such Villages, what they will simply tell you that, all those working, are relatives or people of the same clans lineage. Splm, has been scoring lest because of these practices and hence even other youths have opted Splm for other lest popular Southern Political Parties, while others opt for NCP. It is good that Wani Igga and president Salvar, have realized it that is why they allowed the States to conduct their elections. But seems they are well convinced still with these defeated giants.

The simple thing is that, defeat is always there and they have to accept. They are not the only people in those particular States or Regions who are known or fit for such fields, there are many abled men and women who could do the same, unless the post dictates.

    Thanks my fellow Southerners.

    So called Logic:

You are reducing yourself from human breed to nothing. If I were you, I would have taken a break for a while and think very hard to find solution of what causes the mental disability which prevent you from contributing meaningful ideas than roaring aimlessly like limbless lionness.

I don’t want to response to your silly reply seriously because it doesn’t even translate anything to the readers. If you want to debate with people like me you need to tell the world where you come from. Because I don’t want to debate to those Ugandan cars-washers or Kenyan sugar mill machine operators who knows nothing than street life of seeing things.

If you are not shame of yourselve, why did you jump to insult the all tribe of Murle instead of me who issued the comment? Did I mention anything about James Wani tribe in first place or at least his region?

Let me tell you something, The Murle that you tend to keep on insulting here and there are real men who sometimes turn out to be very bitter, sour and even hotter than red pepper, as a friend, I advice you to stop your resentiment against Murle otherwise, one day you will have handfull

Please change for your own safety.
