Sudan prominent Islamist leader arrested

May 12, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese authorities have arrested Islamist leader Hassan Abdallah al-Truabi and at least four top members of his party, the Popular Congress Party after rebel JEM attack on Khartoum.

Al Turabi has been arrested this Monday morning from his house in Khartoum after his return from Ennar state where he was taking part in a PCP conference.

Popular Congress Party sources told Sudan Tribune that Bashir Hamed Rahmah, Kamal Omer and Abubakr Abdel-Raziq were arrested with him.

Khalil Ibrahim, the leader of the rebel JEM, was in the past a member of the Sudanese Islamist movement and supportive of Hassan al-Turabi. Sudanese government says Turbi and Ibrahim are still coordinating political action.

However, both of them, Turab and Ibrahim deny this accusation.

This is not the first time that Turabi is arrested by the Sudanese government on his links with the rebel JEM. He was already imprisoned in the Kobar prison in March 2004 and released on June 28, 2005 after the signing of the CPA.

The coup accusations and his arrest in March 2004 came only months after his release from custody in October 2003.

Let them hang him, he is the one that cause us this suffering in Sudan. He was the one that introduced al-sharia law or Islamic laws 1983 and many innocent people in Sudan were sujected to torture and had their hands cut off due to accusations that can not be proved, given to the primitiveness of forensic science in Sudan by then, So, if this old idiot is in trouble now, who can call for his release other than own family???????? Hell no, I can help Al-Turabi because he is a big thorthour or insect!!! Let him go to hell., or else I will execute him by hanging him, myself.

Turabi’s imprisonment should not surprise him for Bashir gives no room for justice. Bashir, don’t try to accuse the entire World of JEM attempted attack on Khartoum. Military strength and tactics are not only entitled to neither your government nor your religion but also subjected to rebel like JEM.
Sudan belongs to Black Africans who have suffered for long from such a corrupt government.
Now that they (Black Africans) have determined and patriotic leaders who sacrifice themselves for freedom of their people, you are more likely to face some more dangerous challenges than the Saturday’s JEM attempted attack on capital Khartoum. Please! For the safety of NCP and your life, accept peace. Otherwise that was a “yellow card”.
