Hemetti meets with the technical committee of the security and defence council on March 4, 2023

March 4, 2023 (KHARTOUM) – The deputy head of the Sovereign Council, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemetti” Saturday directed to restore security in the various states of the country, and ordered a transparent and public trial of the police officer who killed a demonstrator recently.

Hemetti resumed his duties, on Saturday, after a mysterious trip to the UAE from February 20 to March 2, where he was welcomed at the airport by Hadi Idris a member of the Sovereign Council. But no statement was released about his return.

On Saturday, Hemetti met at his residence in Khartoum with the Deputy Attorney General, Mohamed Mustafa and acting police director, Nasr al-Din Abdel-Rahim. Also, he held a separate meeting with the Technical Committee of the Security and Defence Council, chaired by the Sudan Armed Forces Chief of Staff, Lt Gen Mohamed Osman al-Hussein.

During his meeting with the police director and the deputy attorney general, he discussed the murder of Ibrahim Majzoub by a police officer and the measures taken against him.

Speaking after the meeting, the police director stated they briefed the deputy head of the Sovereign Council about the killing of a demonstrator and the measures taken against the policeman.

” The Deputy Chairman of the Sovereign Council directed that the trial should be fair, transparent and public,” he further stressed.

The police lifted the immunity of the police officer and handed him over to the prosecution to investigate the murder ahead of his trial.

Hemetti who is the acting head of state, due to al-Burhan participation in an international summit in Doha was, briefed on the security situation in the country by the technical committee of the security and defence council

“His Excellency directed the regular forces to take the necessary measures against troublemakers in order to preserve the security and stability of the country and the safety of people,” read a statement issued by the Sovereign Council.

The meeting denies reports that the security organs had been directed to not brief the deputy head of the Sovereign Council about the security situation in the country.

In the evening, Hemetti addressed the opening session of a workshop on the implementation matrix of the Juba peace agreement.

In his speech, he renewed the government’s commitment to implement the outcome of the updated implementation matrix signed by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the signatory groups in Juba on February 19.

Hemetti who signed the Juba peace agreement in October 2020, did not take part in the talks on the new implementation matrix.

There were rumours that the move meant to punish him for his undisciplined calls to hand over power to a civilian government formed by the parties indicted in the framework agreement.

Al-Burhan and other army generals said they would not hand over power unless more groups are allowed to participate in the new government.
