Sudan president says Israel financed rebel attack on capital

May 14, 2008 (KHARTOUM) —The Sudanese president Omar Hassan Al-Bashir accused Israel of financing the Darfur rebel group that launched a surprise attack on the capital over the weekend.

Al-Bashir described the Justice and Equality movement (JEM) leader Khalil Ibrahim as someone who “sold himself to Israel, Zionism and the devil”.

“Can Khartoum be ruled by an agent and a traitor who sold himself to the devil and Zionism?” Al-Bashir told thousands of supporters during a rally celebrating ‘victory’ over JEM rebels.

JEM rebels staged a bold attack last Saturday and fought fierce battles with the Sudanese army on the outskirts of the capital. However the Sudanese government repulsed the attack and accused Chad of backing the assault.

Al-Bashir said in a televised statement that he holds Chad responsible of the foiled attack by the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) troops against the Sudanese capital. He also announced that diplomatic relations with Chad have been broken.

The Sudanese leader posed a question “Where is Khalil today? After he sent the kids and children to Omdurman now he is on the run asking Chadians for help and for a helicopter to airlift him”.

Khartoum saidon Wednesday it intercepted a message from Ibrahim asking the Chadians for a helicopter to transport him from western Sudan. However Sudanese troops have failed to arrest him yet.

“Khartoum is not Ndjamena, and no agent or an intruder can enter or occupy it” Al-Bashir said in reference to a failed attempt by Chadian rebels last February to take over the capital and oust President Idriss Deby.

The Sudanese president also ruled out any possibility of conducting peace negotiations with JEM.

“We are peace seekers but there is no room here for traitors and we will not negotiate with Khalil Ibrahim” he said.

Yesterday the Sudanese presidential adviser Nafi Nafi in charge of the Darfur dossier said that Ibrahim has “cut the way in front of any possibility to negotiate with his group”.

Nafi also said that the JEM assault will “boost the chances of success for the government to prove that JEM is just a terrorist organization”.

The powerful National Congress Party (NCP) official said that JEM and Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) led by Abdel-Wahid Al-Nur “exposed their disconnection from the Darfur crisis and they are political movements seeking power by manipulating many people including children in these wars that complicated their crisis”.

The director of political affairs at the NCP was also quoted as saying that “there will be negotiations with rebel groups until they are evicted from Darfur”.

The U.N. peacekeeping chief Jean-Marie Guehenno told the Security Council today that prospects for peace in Darfur have grown more remote.

International experts also say more than 300,000 were killed and 2 million have been driven from their homes by the conflict in Darfur, a region that is roughly the size of France.

People are crazy when they say things.
Should it be this time for president Bashir to called JEM leader as an agent of Israel. He himself has been having linked with China and Russia and if that thee case, why should we term him as China and Russia agent?
They weapons being used in Darfur are China made.
PLease Mr. President, shut up your mouth!

    Mr. Omar Hassen,
You are unwise enough why should you not base in one point? Why do you accused Israel and Chad? What do you think is the relationship between Israel and Darfur? Darfurians are Muslims while Israelist are christians. If you are defeated then it should be better for you give chance to others.

Mr.Bashiir seems confused!! Because his statemnets are directed at Chad but the title suggests Israel as his target; so what is the value of random attacks at foreign nations when he is not interested in solving the Darfur people’s flight. You are the real devil mr.president because of the crimes your government has committed against all marginalized people of Sudan ie south sudanese, darfurians, nubans, eastern sudanese and many others. You deserves to burn in hell!!

First, it was america; Chad, Libya; France and now Israel?
“It was the woman you gave me that made me eat of the fruit of the tree of knowing between the bad and the good!”

Biblical transcript makes one infinitely comprehend the false outlook of our Fore grand father, Adam, so as to approve in order to disapprove the antics of pretence. Accusing his wife, Eve, in order not to be held accountable for manner of his conduct was ample translation of the fact that he was putting blame on God who had brought him a wife for realization of fullness; yet Adam, in all this listened to his wife for the sake of self gratification .
The folktales are a true borrowing from the ancient era of no- war no-peace and everybody was worth trusting even the neighbours but now, excuse me, everything has changed to an extent of no trust between couples and they begin to point accusation fingers at whom ever they think is the cause of their unhappiness.

The other week, I heard and read about an attack by the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) on capital Khartoum. It did not take me by surprise because that is normal of a country aspiring for democracy more over JEM is a rebel group engaged in political discontent with the Khartoum regime. But that was my analysis of the matter for which my President, His Excellency Bashir negated to correlate the optimism of accusation in order to stand side by side with the membership of national Congress party (NCP).

Many times I have heard Mr. President and the ruling National Congress Party accusing Chadian President Idriss Deby of backing rebels against the government which I thought was succinct truth but I came to realize it was disintegration of political radicands when Chad accused Sudan of the same pseudonym, politics- dirty game, they say!

My dear jingoists, that same game was, if not is, played by both Uganda and Sudan. they both accused each other of supporting rebels for political ascension and that canceled itself with the realization of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) yet Uganda has not ceased to wink at Sudan in order to find loopholes of politics but the worse is always on our renounced nation of limpness and ambiguity.

I was ashamed at the accusation that France or Israel is responsible for JEM’s attack on Omdurman. Did France sponsor JEM to take arms and fight against Khartoum’s regime? Why do we seem to be unaware of the fact that we are living at the mercy of terrorists who might attack anytime anywhere; and by the way can’t we be on guard for they say ‘prevention is better than cure’?

France or Israel might or might not be responsible for the attack but the point here is that we can’t shrug our shoulders and not give solution to the Darfur war. For God’s sake they are fellow Sudanese more over citizens who can not be looked at with eyes fairy of translucency and opaqueness with regards to their political organization. Sudan is never at peace when thousands are starving to death due to our own mischief and we aspire for the chairmanship of African Union (AU) though denied us but on such traces of political tides! Let’s give to Darfurians what is theirs and to the rest what they deserve and going by this we shall have ascended to the peak of African and global politics, mother Sudan shall be called great nation!

My humble appeal to the president is to go back and seek reconciliation with the Darfur rebels so much that more lives are saved than lost just like SPLM sought peace with the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) and now we are mildly at peace, marvelous, isn’t? But in the name of late hero, Garang, who showed much concern for the people of Sudan! Let’s emulate him and be in the equals of world’s prominent democratic nations lest we lose political image before hand!
