Sudan rejects mediations to restore ties with Chad
May 18, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — Sudan rejected any mediation in order to mend its relations with the Chadian government, however Khartoum said omitted to the Dakar agreement to resolve difference between the two countries.
Following an attack on the Khartoum twin city of Omdurman on May 10, President Omer al-Bashir broke off diplomatic relations with Chad on May 11. Chad announced the closure of its border with Sudan.
Ali Sadiq the spokesperson of the Sudan foreign ministry said Khartoum rejects any mediation to restore diplomatic relations with Chad. He further added that Sudan, which exercised self restrain policy during the four last years, is committed to the principles on good neighbourly relations and has no intention to interfere in the internal affairs of its neighbours or to sabotage its ties with them.
Sadiq said that the government proceeded to announce the Justice and Equality Movement, as a terrorist movement, praising the role of Egyptian government which is restricting the movement of JEM members.
Egypt which has ordered JEM members to leave the country last week prevented their departure from its territory saying it wants to investigate first with them.
Khalil Ibrahim, has urged today the Egyptian authorities to release three JEM officials among them Ahmed Tugud, JEM top negotiator.
The Sudanese official pointed out that friendly states responded positively to Sudanese demand to consider JEM as a terrorist movement. He added that other countries will soon follow the Egypt.
He pointed out that Sudanese diplomacy in the next stage will seek to shed light on the violations committed by the Justice and Equality Movement, in breach of international law and mistreatment of civilians.
The spokesperson disclosed that Sudan has designated Libya to represent its interests in Chad. He also said that Sudanese diplomats have already arrived in Khartoum.

So the government of Sudan knows something called “mistreatment of civilians!!!” That must sound strange if the hundreds of thousand of Darfuris murdered and displaced from their homes are to be called “civilians”.And I would be delighted to see this case looked into my the international community, that is hard to be seen in action, in light of the scale of loss on the lives of civilans as per the actions of JEM or NIF/NCP.
Another strange term that has emerged in the Sudanese bank of English vocabulary is “terrorists.”To my understanding,the word has not been understood well as English is not frequently used in the country compared to arabic and so there is limited understanding of some English words like terrorists.Otherwise if JEM is a young terrorists group, the NCP is an experienced terrorists group that trained JEM because JEM “was” trying to take power through military means as NIF/NCP did and if that is what is called terrorism,then the punitive measures that a terrorist is exposed to should first land on the initiator before imitator.
Generally,the first proriority is to solve the conflict diplomatically instead of accusing the whole world of supporting JEM instead of beating about the bush for no cause period.
