Sudan ruling party, opposition Umma to sign political agreement
May 19, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese opposition Umma Party leader Sadiq al-Mahdi will sign tomorrow with President Omar al-Bashir as head of the ruling National Congress Party a national reconciliation agreement called the “National Compromise Agreement”.
Umma Party Secretary-General Abdelnabi Ali Ahmed said that the agreement contains agendas with seven axes: removing tension and create a conducive climate in the country, national principles, comprehensive peace, Darfur crisis, civil liberties, comprehensive forum and the general elections.
Ali pointed out that these themes are national issues, not partisan or bilateral.
He added that the signing of the agreement is the first step before its presentation to all national forces in order to give their opinion on it. This step would be followed by the preparation for a comprehensive forum which will discuss the above mentioned agendas besides its mechanisms of implementation.
He said that “the nation is now facing the risk of tension which might lead to fragmentation and external targeting leading to the malignant internationalization. He added that his party in order to avoid all these dangers insists on the need to gather the national forces in order to ensure the unity and integrity of Sudan as well as the democratic transition.
National opposition parties have refused the agreement before it official signing tomorrow, saying that this deal was to be inclusive must include a democratic transition in the country and the implementation of the signed agreements than in the past.
The agreement comes after months of the dialogue between the two parties. It also does not contain any items to engage the Umma party in the current national unity government. However, there are expectations for a possible coalition between the two parties in the general elections to be held next year.
Last March Al-Mahdi speaking to Sudan Tribune denied any intention to forge a political partnership with the ruling National Congress Party (NCP).
This is the second agreement between the Umma and the NCP. The first was on November 25, 1999 in Djibouti. According to this deal the Umma Party ended the armed struggle against the regime of Bashir, who assumed power since the Mahdi removal through a military coup in 1989.
The Umma Party is one of the ancient historical parties in the Sudan and had a majority in parliament during the three periods of democratic rule in the Sudan since its independence in 1956.

THIS IS A DANGEROUS AGREEMENT AIMED AT ANOTHER GENOCIDE ON THE MARGINALIZED PEOPLE IN SUDAN.
The two historical blood-thirsty leaders Sadig Al-Mahdi of Marahaleen and Omar Al-Bashir of Janjaweed have again planned another genocide against the marginalized people of Sudan. The two leaders of Marahaleen and Janjaweed saw that what they did against the people of Darfur, Southern Sudan and Eastern Sudan was not enough therefore they sat in Khartoum to make another evil attempt which the Marahaleen leader’s Umma Party Secretary General Abdel Nabi Ali Ahmed described as “the agreement containing agendas with seven axes.”
Al-Sadig Al-Mahdi or Imam of the Marahaleen is fully responsible for the historical massacres of Babanusa and Ed Dhein including the abduction of children, women and cattle in Southern Sudan during the war with the SPLA while Al-Bashir or Janjaweed leader is fully responsible for the massacres in Jebelein and Darfur region including the ongoing killings and arrests in Omdurman town following the recent attack on the town and current crisis in Abyei Area.
This time let all political forces of the marginalized people in Sudan united behind the SPLM to stop evil policies always planned by the Umma Party and her sister the NIF or NCP.
