Security reform workshop to begin on Sunday: spokesman

March 24, 2023 (KHARTOUM) – The security reform workshop will be held next Sunday, ahead of the signing of a final political agreement and the formation of a transitional civilian government.

The signatories of the framework agreement in Sudan held four of five workshops to discuss stocky issues and reach a national consensus over it.

The security and military issues which is the latest one will discuss the needed basis for the formation of a national army and the integration of paramilitary forces, and the former rebel groups.

“The security and military reform workshop will be held from next Sunday morning, March 26, until Wednesday, March 29, at the Friendship Hall in Khartoum,” said Khalid Omer Youssif Spokesman of the political process.

Youssif added that the workshop will involve the political forces that signed the framework agreement, regular forces, armed movements and specialists, in coordination with the tripartite facilitation mechanism.

Identical sources told Sudan Tribune that the workshop would include 200 participants 40 people will represent the political forces and the other 160 will be from the army, police, Rapid Support Forces and former rebel groups.

In preparation for this workshop, the Sudan Armed Forces have already formed three committees on security and military reform and security arrangements.

In a related development, the spokesman said that the Final Agreement Drafting Committee continues its meeting at the Republican Palace.

The final agreement will be signed on the first of April.
