March 24, 2023 (El GENEINA) – Four people were killed Thursday, and dozens were injured in West Darfur state, as a result of bloody violence in areas bordering Chad.

According to a statement released by the Sudanese police, a trader in Tendalty area was killed by two individuals who stormed his house and shot him before to flee.

The area residents arrested two people and stoned them to death. In return, their relatives and tribesmen carried out an attack on the neighbourhood where they killed and injured several others.

The rapporteur of the West Darfur State Security Committee, Ammar Zain al-Abidin, said that the state committee held an emergency meeting and decided to dispatch joint forces to the site of the events to restore order and prevent further escalation.

He added that two members of the security forces were injured while they were trying to repel the assailants.

The vice-chairman of the Darfur Lawyers Association’s board of trustees Sadiq Ali Hassan told Sudan Tribune that the revenge attack left one dead, a medical assistant, Abdallah Yaqoub, who was shot by the attackers.

Hassan revealed a large number of Tendalty residents crossed the border to Chad fearing further attacks.

“The Association received reports indicating that large gatherings of tribal militias from different regions are still besieging Tendalty,” he added.

For its part, West Darfur State Higher Coordination of Nomads condemned the murder of two Arab tribesmen and the mutilation of their bodies in the Tendalty area.

In a statement extended to Sudan Tribune, the Coordination called on the security services to quickly arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The statement denounced the torture of the two suspects saying they “were subjected to the most heinous types of torture and brutal killing”.

Tendalty residents say the police refused to arrest the suspects when they brought them to the police station.

A video and photos of the murdered suspects were released on social media.
