March 30, 2023 (KHARTOUM) – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced, on Thursday, their firm commitment to the framework agreement, and the formation of a single army.

The security reform workshop was concluded on 29th March without agreed recommendations after the withdrawal of the Sudan Armed Forces from the closing session.

However, SAF spokesman late on Wednesday issued a statement renewing their commitment to the process saying they are awaiting the technical committee to discuss the details of the integration and modernisation process.

In the same vein, the RSF released a statement on Thursday morning reiterating its full commitment to the formation of a national army. The text further referred to the framework agreement and the agreed principles for its integration, reform and modernisation of the army.

In addition, the RSF pointed out their “organic relationship” with the army stressing that “no party will be able to disturb it”.

“We will continue to work positively in the joint technical committees, which will follow up the discussion on the rest of the details, to complete the agreed upon principles and foundations,”

The paramilitary underscored their keenness to conclude discussions so that a final agreement be signed according to agreed Schedule.

A military source explained the withdrawal of the Sudanese army delegation saying they refuse the 10-year integration of the RSF soldiers and call to finalize it in two years.

The civilian forces welcome

The civilian signatories of the framework agreement welcomed the commitment of the SAF and RSF to the political process.

“We appreciate the spirit reflected in the statements of the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces as they emphasize their commitment to the political process, and readiness to engage in discussion on the remaining issues.

The civil groups further hailed their readiness to reach a consensus as soon as possible in order to include it in the final political agreement.
