Sudan arrests leading JEM rebel attempting to cross into Eritrea

May 22, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — The National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) yesterday arrested a leading member of the Justice and Equality Movement while he was attempting to cross to Eritrea, Sudan tribune has learnt.

The arrested commander Abdel-Aziz al-Nur Al-Ashr took part in the JEM attack on the Sudanese capital on May 10.

The Sudanese security services announced today the arrest of Ashar but
the NISS didn’t indicate the place where commander Abdel-Aziz al-Nur Al-Ashr was arrested.

However, reliable sources told Sudan Tribune that Al-Ahar was arrested yesterday in eastern Sudan while he was preparing him self to cross the Eritrean border.

Al-Asher who is the half- brother of Khalil Ibrahim, is the head of JEM intelligence apparatus.
