April 5, 2023 (KHARTOUM) — The head of the state-owned mining company announced that Sudan had produced over 41 tonnes of gold in 2022.

Mubarak Abdel Rahman Ardol, Director General of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, revealed the country’s total gold production for 2022 was 41.8 tons.

Speaking at a media forum on Monday, Ardol stated that the country had generated revenues of approximately 150 billion Sudanese pounds (equivalent to 260 million dollars).

In 2018, Sudan produced over 78 tonnes of gold.

However, since the revolution, gold smuggling has increased in Sudan, depriving the central bank of foreign currency.

The director said that the revenues generated from gold production in 2022 were distributed among five parties, including the Ministry of Finance.

He also highlighted that Sudan’s mineral exports in 2022 were around two billion dollars, representing 47% of the country’s total exports.
