The SPLA’s military, signal of defeat in Abyei

By Mayar Mayar Kout

May 23, 2008 — Not long ago, the most of you who have access to the media, have already knows from the newspaper, local televisions, telecommunications and online news. There was another massacre death in Abyei region, (south-north borders). A four days military confrontation between heroes of SPLA’s military forces and occupier’s military of the President al Basher known as “SAF Brigade 31” . According to the NOGs humanitarian reliefs agencies. “Abyei battle was carried out by the Sudanese army and its militias from the Misseriya.” Eventually, there was three major components led the SPLA’s military failure to protect region militarily, here are following:

In May 10, 2008; the SPLA’s intelligent secret servicemen were able to intercept phone conversations of the Sudanese’s military Intelligence inside Abyei, at around 15:00Pm. Caller was to gathered information about the SPLA’s military capacity, locations, Tanks, and possible operation for invasion. In addition, there were leaked information from an official in NCP’s party that, the Sudanese military and its militias will attacked Abyei, Agok’s town, and Mackay Dail. According to the information I’ve gathered from field commanders, said “The SPLA’s Intelligent Agent made phones called to military’s Headquarter in Juba” and high ranking military personnel’s in Juba were became well aware about Sudanese military moved in the Abyei region.

Consequently, in May 12 2008 the SPLM’s secretary in Abyei region, told the SPLA’s commander Deng about Miseries’ suspicious moved in the city. He told him to informed commanders in “Joint National Integration Units” JNIU again, there was no enough effort made by the SPLA’s commander at least to prevent massacre of the civilians despite all facts that, the Misseryia militias men consistently, have announced that their map boundaries have a two scenarios First of all, to move all SPLA’s units and our brothers, sisters of Dinka from Abyei to go southward of Kiir River which it‘s obviously they succeeded. Second, scenario to secure their occupation in Karisana area, the dispute border between southern Kordofan state and Unity state.

According to the reporters, since battle interrupted all across Abyei city, the SPLA ‘s commanders high ranks, include soldiers were battling for their survivals, on the other hands, they were making their best to recued civilians from houses and to protect them from gunfire but, there was no adequate military’s supplies. They asked for help from military’s HQ in Juba, there was no foods, no shelters for civilians, whom were displaced, the entire population of Abyei region. By contrast the Sudanese army-flown some of its military aircraft – notably Antonov planes to reinforcing its Brigade 31, bringing in personnel and hardware from southern states, namely Unity state as well as division military units from Capitol Hill.

In conclusion, I would like to ask our leaders simply questions, President and his SPLA’s Chief of Staff. First of all, President Salva, I do understand your commitment to protect the “CPA” we all know the circumstances but, the question though: are you willing to stand for a peace, if even Abyei were to go north militarily by al Bashir and alliance of Misseryia men? Will you accept to any settlement that will cut Abyei’s border of 1905? To north Sudan. Are you ready to accept Kiir River as a line separated us south- north boundaries? To: Defense’s Secretary simple question: Do you understand the scorched-earth policy? If you do then how you justified recent pulling a way of the SPLA units from Karisana military’s based in southern Kordofan state border?
