Sudan blames humanitarian organizations for exaggerating situation in Darfur
KHARTOUM, Feb 29, 2004 (Sudan Tribune) — The minister for humanitarian affairs, Ibrahim Mahmud Hamid, blamed the humanitarian organization for exaggerating the humanitarian situation and the number of refugees fleeing the Darfur Region.
In a press conference held yesterday, he said, by exaggerating the aim of the humanitarian organizations was merely to lobby for financial support
The minister has confirmed that the humanitarian situation in Darfur is far much better than had been previously days.
The minister denied the allegations by humanitarian organizations that the number of refugees fleeing into Chad had tremendously increased.
He said the armed forces were in full control of all parts of Darfur Region and are positioned in Al-Tina and Karnoi in order to prevent any attempt by the refugees to cross into Chad.
The government announced earlier this month it had crushed the rebellion, paving the way for opening new “corridors” for relief supplies.
