Sudan urges international action against Chad over Darfur
May 28, 2008 (YOKOHAMA, Japan) — Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir demanded international action against Chad over its alleged support for Darfur rebel groups and involvement in attack against the capital during a speech at an African development forum in Japan.
Al-Bashir made his call on Wednesday at a summit of some 40 African leaders in Yokohama, Japan, striking a discordant note at the start of a meeting focused on development and poverty alleviation.
“A Darfurian rebel faction supported and equipped by the government of Chad launched a terrorist aggression against innocent civilians in the Sudanese capital,” Al-Bashir said.
“The world should no longer tolerate such actions,” he told the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development, which was attended by a senior Chadian minister.
He insisted that Sudan was complying with international efforts to resolve the conflict in the parched western province of Darfur, where violence broke out in 2003.
“We firmly believe the Darfur problem can only be solved through political negotiations and it is therefore necessary to support and implement the political process under the U.N.-AU auspice,” he added.
“However, our efforts are being undermined by unjustifiable and unacceptable external violations of our sovereignty and the right of the Sudanese people to live in peace,” he said.
Chad has denied backing the assault on Khartoum, which led Sudan to sever diplomatic relations.
The Darfur conflict has caused hundreds of thousands of desperate refugees to flee across the Chadian border.
Sudan and Chad have traded accusations that they are trying to destabilise their respective regimes.
Separately, al-Bashir also called for the immediate relief of external debts in order to support Sudanese efforts to achieve conflict resolution and poverty reduction.
Japan offered in March to forgive 3.2 billion yen of Sudanese debt, approximately $31 million, on condition that a North-South peace agreement is fully implemented, efforts are made to promote peace talks on Darfur, and relations with Chad and other neighboring nations are improved

Wow!Wonders will never end and fibbers will never exhaust the bank of fibs!!!Are Darfuris and Ng’ok dinkas not innocent civilians? Why should they be killed and displaced by the same person(Al-Bashir) who is referring to the right of “innocent civilians in Khartoum or does it mean the Khartoumers are theonly civilians in the country?.”I wonder how much Al Bashir thinks the whole world is too foolish to see through his maladroitness and terrorism.Anyway, prepare a place for your safety because Sudanese are tired of war which is the main claw for NCP’s power grip.Very soon, Bashir will just be tried like Saddam Hussein, right?
