Ugandan peacekeeper killed in North Darfur
May 29, 2008 (EL-FASHER) — The hybrid peacekeeping mission in Darfur announced the killing of a Ugandan police officer yesterday in North Darfur state by unidentified unknown assailants
Inspector John Kennedy Okecha was killed in his UNAMID vehicle on Wednesday May 28 on the outskirts of Zam Zam in North Darfur. He had been shot three times in the neck, chest and stomach, the spokesperson of peacekeeping mission said.
He was “brutally and shamelessly murdered,” Noureddine Mezni said in a statement released today.
The Deputy Joint Special Representative Henry Anyidoho, condemned the murder saying it “was a hideous and callous crime against an unarmed peacekeeper.”
The UN-African Union peacekeeping mission seems confronting the same problems of its precedent AMIS mission because it suffers from the lack of the necessary means to conduct its mission. Also the mandate of the mission appears more and more incompatible with the daily reality because peace does not exist in Darfur.
Ethiopian and Egyptian troops were to be deployed since last April but they are not yet in the troubled Darfur due to logistical problems. The UN Security Council authorized 26000 troops, 19, 500 soldiers and 6, 500 police officers, but they are only 9200 peacekeepers on the ground.
The killed inspector of police had joined Darfur peacekeeping mission in January 2008. The motif of the murder remains unknown. But the mission was attacked several times since the take over from the African Union mission.
Between 50 to 60 armed men on horseback ambushed a Nigerian battalion on Wednesday May 21, afternoon along the new airport road near El Geneina in West Darfur state. The assailant was armed with machine guns, rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.

Ugandan peacekeeper killed in North Darfur
My deep sorrow and condolence goes to the family of the late Inspector John Kennedy Okecha and the entire nation of Uganda, for the murder of their son by the organized terrorist group(president Al-Bashir’s boys)..Now to the so called International Community, you have seen how and who president Al-Bashir is,its now time to wash him out he must go and join his beloved husband Saddam in hell, nothing and nothing will bring peace to this land of Sudan unless this terrorist and his boys are done away,i blame you the International Community for not actively doing your job, you have made it a job creation for your own interest by shading down innocent peoples blood for your benefit, why don’t you intervene by force and do something to rescue the massacre in Sudan of the innocent people by the NCP terrorist, you can imagine what America is trying to do now, calling for relationship with Khartoum just because of the oil in Abyei while Sudan was listed in the top terrorist countries, nothing is done and you are going to do nothing its really a pity and a big shame for the International Community, i wish if the victim was from the West other than our fellow African,it could make you wake up and know that there is problem in this county, otherwise i advice you to be conscious of human being other than coming to milk resourses in the Sudan
