ICC planned to divert plane of Darfur war crimes suspect

By Wasil Ali

June 5, 2008 (NEW YORK) – The International Criminal Court (ICC) attempted to divert a plane that carried Ahmed Haroun, state minister for humanitarian affairs, on his way to Saudi Arabia in December to perform the annual Islamic pilgrimage.

“We were getting ready to divert his plane and force it to land and arrest him” ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo told Sudan Tribune today.

Ocampo said that his office received help on plan from other countries though he declined to name them.

“Some countries were willing to support and provide information on Haroun [travel] plans. We organized the logistics. Everything was settled” he said.

Earlier this year a well placed source in Khartoum told Sudan Tribune that Haroun, wanted to fly to Saudi Arabia on a forged passport.

Haroun ended up cancelling his travel plans after the Sudanese government found out, the source added.

“As soon as Haroun leaves Sudan he will be arrested. He is a fugitive. Inside Sudan he could have freedom. Outside Sudan he will be in jail” the ICC Prosecutor said.

Ocampo said the Saudi Arabian government was aware of the plans to divert Haroun’s plane.

The judges of the ICC issued their first arrest warrants for suspects accused of war crimes in Sudan’s Darfur region last May.

The warrants were issued for Ahmed Haroun, state minister for humanitarian affairs, and militia commander Ali Mohamed Ali Abdel-Rahman, also know as Ali Kushayb. Sudan has so far rejected handing over the two suspects.

Sudan has not ratified the Rome Statue, but the UN Security Council (UNSC) invoked the provisions under the Statue that enables it to refer situations in non-State parties to the world court if it deems that it is a threat to international peace and security.

My worry is that thousands of warrant are given but not initiated.

Idleness gives chance for devil and thus death cases escalate, speed up Darfur judgement and Saudia Arabia be put under observation for without which Omar decision shall have changed to admit peace.

Those reuters carried on plane are the sowers of Darfur disaster-i pray they all die in pain.

They will be on the run but eventually we will see them standing before the ICC to answer to their crimes they have committed against the innocent people of Sudan. Justice must prevail and one day Bashir will test the good and the bad of the prison cell. He has kept innocent people behind bars but I want to be the guard when Bashir languishes in prison paying for his crimes in Darfur and Abyei.

BREAKING NEWS: ICC planned to divert plane of Darfur war crimes suspect
This is far and long way away from the truth, they can’t be serious, why are those of ICC targeting and chasing around the wrong person? Can’t they see beyond their noses? Why are they leaving behind the big three (3) guys that screwed up our Country all the gone years, and dearly responsible for South Sudan as well as that of Darfur and Abiei genocide, hence, there was no point of hanging “Saddam Hussien” if at all law shy away from the main figures. This young man you are following is just subordinate and I hope you can guest who are his bosses that order him to do this and that. Please, think twice and don’t leave the devil, pay them what they have sown all the gone years of instability in the Sudan.

Or you doing that and you will come back for them??

ICC takes them to court immediately to wage their sweat.

Ahmed Haroun and Ali Sabya, have so far killed innocent civilians and committed many atrocities in the western part of Sudan region of Darfur.

Do them like Sadam Hussen of Iraq.
