June 4, 2023 (KHARTOUM) – The leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Sunday expressed unwavering support and commitment to the ongoing talks in Jeddah to end the fighting in Sudan.

On Sunday, the mediators, the United States and Saudi Arabia, called on the Sudanese army and the RSF to resume talks. They further demanded that both sides commit to a declaration to protect civilians signed on May 11.

In response to the call, the RSF leader spoke with the Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan to welcome the call for the resumption of the indirect talks.

“I assured His Highness The Prince of our support for the Jeddah process and our full commitment to the Declaration on the Protection of Civilians and the continuation of facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of our people,” said Mohamed Hamdan Daglo “Hemetti”.

On May 31, the Sudanese army suspended its participation in the Jeddah process unilaterally, calling for withdrawing the paramilitary elements from the residential areas as civilians continued to complain about the takeover of their homes by RSF forces and the looting of their belongings, including vehicles.

The army also underscored that the RSF continued to occupy public institutions and impede the restoration of essential services.

The RSF leader said the telephone call with the Saudi Foreign Minister also provided an opportunity to exchange views on the latest developments in Sudan.

He added that both parties stressed the importance of coordination and intensifying joint efforts to stabilize the country.

Hemetti’s absence from the media for nearly a month gave room for the spear of rumours about his death on social media.
