Salva Kiir says Sudan unity is fundamental option of Southerners

June 9, 2008 (KHARTOUM) – First Vice-President of the Republic, head of the South Sudan government stressed that the unity of Sudan is the basic option for all the Southern Sudanese in their different components.

kiir_in_qatar.jpgSalva Kiir Mayadrit met on Monday at his office in the Republican Palace in Khartoum with a delegation of Egyptian journalists headed by Makram Mohamed Ahmed, chairman of Egyptian journalists syndicate.

The top Southern Sudanese official told the visiting delegation that the political cooperation between the north and the south besides the development in the southern Sudan as well as the support of Egypt and Arab countries would make unity attractive in the south.

Salva Kiir added “We have to work on the ground to make people feel the fruits of peace and unity.”

Makram said the interview with Kiir addressed the bilateral relations between Khartoum and Cairo and ways to upgrade it besides implementation of the peace agreement and development efforts in Sudan.

Kiir also received the Qatari Ambassador in Khartoum who delivered a written message from His Royal Highness Prince Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, related to the relations between the two countries

The Qatari ambassador in Khartoum emphasized the keenness to strengthen Sudanese peace process through implementation of a number of joint projects.

According to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed in January 2005, the southern Sudan has to decide through a referendum in 2011 whether it wants to remain within a united Sudan or to establish an independent state.

South Sudan is already gone which mean it is too late for the fake unity to be attractive.

I wonder how the arabized Nubian govt (NIF) can make the unity attractive in the next 3 years.

About 98% of South Sudan population is for Separation, and to make a U turn, it can take South Sudanese another 50 years to change their decision from separation to baseless unity.

In these days it is a time to celebrate the separation peacefuly or through Blood and Iron.

Mr president Kiir remeber that such kind of words are the big source of poison to our nation and its people. Why should we work for unity with arabs?,if you don’t understand the objectives of arabs Mr president for truth you will destroy the future of our nation South. This secret of connection with arabs countries such as those of Qatari will not be a great advantage of our South or Sudan,it is just a benefit of individuals. Can anyone explain the meaning of arabs including their characters to our president.I absolutely agree that no development no matter instead of making relation with any of arabs countries whether within Africa or Asia.Unity is samething that i can imagine in my view as a big mystery of poison to South, but it is a big advantage of northern arabs including our own traders in South. Why can’t we join our hands together and work with one goal of our own benefit like people of South. Therefore those who denied my view are the future enemies of our country particularly richest region of South.

    Dear President,

Befriending Eygpt which was arms suplier to Sudan Government when SPLA was waging war is like we are importing terrorists to our land.

Congratulation for the highest degree of unity your regime has made to Southern Sudanese but let care be to outsiders, in the same way Garang befriended Uganda-He died in friendship.
You represent the great nation and contract are sometimes not profitable as done with China.

Open your eyes and fill concern about the unity of the South and its progress.
    Thanks.

Brothers, why are you troubling your self with negative comments on political statements. You think president Silva Kiir is a fool. You just keep your eyes in the implementation of the CPA and leave our political leaders to play their politics.Politics is a game that some of you can not understand.

Bashir will eat you when you say fact about south sudan.please Kir if you want to join Bashir in Khartoum please leave the south for us and we will continue the same objectives that were articulated by Dr. John Garang and Dr. Riek Machar, the good leaders with long vission.

i can again blame SPLM MEMEBERS who re-elected you during the SPLM convention and they know that your weak politicaly.

Why not we try to work for the unity of one big republic of the world, bringing all the countries of the world under the leadership of one dictator sitting in the world capital of New York with Ki-Moon as his/her vice president.

I do not hear Bashir or any other NIF member talking about unity, why should others bother themselves with this vague announcement. My vote is my responsibility towards my people.

Salva Kiir is one of southern leaders that never waiver during the civil war no matter how ugly things were. Unlike some leaders who ran to Khartoum when the civil war got worst, Mr. Kiir chose to die with his people. Therefore, Southerners trust him for standing with them during tough time. “Pretenders are worst than murders”, why are all nuers pretending to love south Sudan now when they worked their ass-off for Arab in the last 22 years while the rest of Southerners were fighting Arabs. Nuers had to remember one thing, they will go down the history as traders no matter what they say or pretend to be now. All Southerners know who served Arab for all these years.

Salva Kiir says Sudan unity is fundamental option of Southerners
The statement by the First Vice President H.E. Salva Kiir on unity of Sudan came without any surprise. Southerners should back this call as it was the main objective the second SPLM convention in Juba two months ago for a New Sudan slogan. The leaders were confirmed to their position for another five years to work for the unity of the country. The period will out live 2011 in order to ascertain that the unity is achieved. We have given then the mandate to govern and shows what is good for the nation. Some of them have already bought properties in Khartoum. We, usually prayer for our leaders in our churches on Sundays so that God should give them wisdom to govern correctly. There is more than one reason why southerners should go for unity than separation. Just to mention a few reasons, the last three years, GOSS did not show god governance but was monopolies by corruption and tribalism. No infrastructures developed in the states rather than GOSS in Juba which may be operational. Insecurity in many parts of the south is rising. South does not any common identity or nationalism otherwise southerners consist of tribes that do not necessary have any social bounds. What bounds them together is their common enemy the northerners. Within a short time, Abyei problem got solved which is a good indication that going to war too early has been avoided. SPLA soldiers have been carrying guns for over twenty years, given their age, can they be able to fight on when most are over forty years old or even approaching fifty years. No signs that SPLA will transform into modern army to face any aggression against the south. LRA is threatening peace without being abate. The young generations have either become street boys who call themselves “Lost-boys” taking to alcohol and drugs. Young graduates will never find jobs since GOSS do not have plans for development projects.

The main reason why southerners went to war was because of underdevelopment or differential development of the south. If the northerners can grantee equal development then there will be no need for separation. We have to agree that the south at this moment do not have the capacity and trained human resources to run a nation.

If you pay a visit to Khartoum, you will realize the street vendors mainly southerners from Awiel and Gogrial are prospering very well on the verandas of Aferangi Market while their local elders/politicians are either sitting in lacuszours hotel or sapping tea while chatting politics. These local elders are well informed of what is happening on Salva Kiir table on daily bases. The vendors at all accounts are making a good living which they can not get back home. In addition, some of IDPs who came home from the north have returned because of lack of basic services which are not being provided by GOSS.

Unity is eminent by 2011 because in places like Upper Nile which is being govern by NCP governor, northerners have been provided with land to invest. Northern companies are contracted to build roads and other infrastructures which is a clear indication that southerners are incapable to work and lack of expertise and skill workers.

If the Sudan remains united then oil money can be use properly for development of the south than getting into individuals pockets to buy houses abroad. America and Egypt may not be in favor of a separate south. The African countries have a lot on their plates than to support the south.
