South Sudan’s Kiir in South Africa for bi-lateral discussions
June 27, 2023 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has flown to South Africa for an official working visit, the Presidential Affairs minister announced on Friday.
President Kiir is scheduled to meet his counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday as both leaders enhance bi-lateral relations between both nations.
Speaking to reporters at Juba International Airport prior to the South Sudanese leader’s departure, the Presidential Affairs minister said the two leaders would also discuss the implementation of the September 2018 revitalized peace agreement.
He said Kiir and Ramaphosa would also discuss regional issues, citing Sudan’s crisis.
The Presidential Affairs minister stated, “President Kiir and Ramaphosa will discuss areas of mutual cooperation between the SPLM [Sudan People’s Liberation Movement] and South Africa’s ruling ANC [African National Congress] party.
“During his stay, President Kiir will also meet with other key South African officials and business leaders to promote trade and investment between the two nations,” he added.
Marial said South Sudan seeks to bolster its long-standing relationship with South Africa and enhance collaborations for sustainable peace and development.
