Sudanese army kills 12 RSF troops in Khartoum
August 2, 2023 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese army forces launched an attack on Wednesday, resulting in the death of 12 members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The official spokesman for the Sudanese army confirmed the destruction of four RSF armed cars at the entrance of Al-Mak Nimr Bridge, which connects Khartoum and Khartoum North.
Brig Gen Nabil Abdallah emphasized that the government forces are in control of the country and are continuing to carry out operations targeting the RSF forces in the Sudanese capital.
Abdallah stated that the Special Forces are actively operating in Khartoum North, Omdurman, and Khartoum. Additionally, the Air Force is conducting air strikes on the Rapid Support Forces stationed in central and southern Khartoum.
Since last July, the Sudanese army has intensified attacks on RSF sites using small groups and employing a hit-and-run strategy.
This approach of short surprise attacks has effectively reduced the movement of the RSF in Khartoum, where they previously had free movement. However, the paramilitary groups are still in control of several strategic sites.
“The armed forces remain vigilant, monitoring the enemy’s plans and movements, and are ready to respond to any changes the enemy may attempt,” the army spokesman affirmed.
As a precautionary measure, the army recently launched attacks against the RSF elements in the areas near the armoured corps headquarters in southern Khartoum, in anticipation of any potential militia attack.
In response to the escalating conflict, the governor of North Kordofan issued a decision to impose a state of emergency and declared a curfew in the state, effective from 7 PM to 5 AM, starting on Wednesday.
Since mid-April, the Sudanese army forces and the RSF have been engaged in armed conflict in Khartoum, with the confrontations spreading to several areas in the regions of Darfur and Kordofan.
