South Sudan Panyar and Aliap clans reconcile in Rumbek

By Manyang Mayom

June 19, 2008 (RUMBEK) — The two clans of Panyar and Aliap who fought against each other recently have came together today for reconciliation table to settle their differences in Rumbek, Lakes States.

The reconciliation meeting brought together the two warring clans into the room of SPLM Lakes state secretariat hall on Thursday afternoon.

The Commissioner of Rumbek Central County, Abraham Makol Bol, who chaired the meeting, said that the two committees now have the responsibility of educating their people about reconciliation.

Both of the Commissioner of Rumbek East and SPLM Secretariat were involved in the reconciliation meeting.

Some traditional chiefs’ representatives from both communities participated in the meeting, also.

However, the representatives from both sides said they are resolved to stop the revenge attacks, but to track down the culprits and hand them to government” he said.

Nine people were killed during the last May cattle fighting between the two clans. The parties and the mediators expressed hope that this reconciliation brings calm in an area where the cattle’s clashes threaten peace in the region.

    Dear readers,

First of all, sorry for bringing up this topic under a different article. I have been surprised by a group of Dinka guys who tend to bombard this wonderful discussion website with lies, proving that the “Dinkas were born to lie” as the saying goes in the Sudan.

I couldn’t believe the insults directed to the Nuer community by these liars who are traditionally taught to lie. I ignored the first Dinka guy who claimed that I should go to my Nuer community who cut their faces! I wondered whether the Dinkas do not cut their faces as they too have traditional marks on their faces. I decided not to respond to him believing that he will admit his mistake by himself or other Dinkas will remind him that even Dinka tribesmen mark their faces.

Attracted by my lack of response to the first claim, another Dinka guy vomited out the same insults that the Nuer cut their faces. Are these lost boys who have forgotten the Dinka traditions, just because they might not have been cut on their faces, or what is it? I may be also identified as a lost boy but I have been in the Sudan long enough and only came to the United States of America just a few years ago to have a chance of going to a good school here for a better future.

Yes, the Nuer have a unified tradition of cutting their faces with six latitudnal lines connecting from the forehead right up to above the ears on both sides. The whole Nuer nation does that right from Gaajaak Nuer at the Ethiopian border in the far east up to the Bul Nuer clan in the far west near the border with Southern Kordufan.

But what about the Dinkas? The Dinka Bahr el Ghazal have a tradition of cutting, not only their faces, but the whole head, from the forehead with latitudnal lines going through the head and connecting at the back of the head. Salva Kiir Mayardit can testify to that because he has those big cuts on his face. Probably this is why he wears hats almost all the time to cover those big cuts on his face! He also had his four lower teeth removed and you can imagine the big gap between them.

Late John Garang also had four of his lower teeth removed. Do you know how I know this, I used to be one of child-soldiers and in some occasions came closer to him and observed this very closely, and I can tell you he was very, very ugly looking person in the Sudan. But he was a clever ugly man! I couldn’t understand how a beautiful lady like Nyandeng or Nyandhom as preferrably called by those who know her better, fell in love with a ugly person. May be because of Garang’s cleverness or belongings.

The Dinka Bor have a different tradition of marking their faces with longitudnal cuts like horns of a gazzele pointing upwards like those of Mundari. They are also easily identified by their gloomy faces and sometimes, rotten teeth, probably because of the curse Prophet Ngundeng, told them after they stole Ngundeng’s food at a ceremony and Ngundeng said that those who stole it would be identified by the very teeth they chew that food with. Even Dinka Bor women cut their faces like men. This sometimes brought confusion to us in Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya when a Nuer guy fell in love with a Dinka Bor lady, went to the forest and while they were on the act, a Turkana guy saw them and rushed to his village, telling his people that he saw a Nuer man acting on another Dinka Bor man. He thought only men were marked because the Nuer do not cut the faces of their females.

Some Dinka clans in Lakes state and those of Ngok Dinka adopted the Nuer tradition of cuttings after they were mentally colonized by the Nuer, but recently tried to modify them by adding some more cuttings to look differently from those of Nuer.

So my friends, I don’t know which audience you tried to fool. Even Europeans who have been to Sudan know those tribes including Dinka who cut their faces or remove their lower teeth. If your Dinka leaders whom I have given as examples do have cuts on their faces or heads than why do you lie, or are Salva Kiir and John Garang not Dinkas? What about Michael Makuei Lueth, who is the only Dinka Bor Minister in the GOSS, does he not have those Dinka Bor cuttings on his face? Go and check by yourself! What about Paul Mayom Akech whose clan adopted the Nuer cuttings in Lakes state and a Minister in the Goss. Does he not have those cuts on his face? Go and check by yourself! I cannot even mention their lower teeth that were removed.

The only Nuer Minister in the GoSS who has marks on his face is Gabriel Changson. Those of John Luk Jok, Joseph Duer Jakok, Dr. Joseph Minytuil, and even Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin have no Nuer traditional cuttings on their faces.

I cannot even mention Dr. Riek Machar who has no a single cut on face and has his lower teeth intact coupled with his handsome, brighter and smiling face of Nuer.

So please, don’t be tempted to lie every time. All South Sudanese communities who read this message will agree with me that both Nuer and Dinka plus some other tribes do have cuttings on their faces. To single out the Nuer and make as an insult to deceive the readers that the Nuer is the only tribe that practice this is a mere lie that will only prove that the “Dinkas were born to lie.”

I myslef have no cuttings on my face and do have all my teeth intact, but I should not deny that the Nuer do cut their faces, because my own father did it.

And I visited Juba in January this year and had seen those of our Ministers who have cuts on their faces whether a Dinka or a Nuer, let alone the rest of their populations.

    Cheers, Gatwech

Is yours saying what has passed across your minds with out comprehension? Which article is this Mr. Dull man Gatwech? You have adapted all parallel thoughts of Machar and this is why you are taking us far from the main article as Machar did by taking people away from liberation of the southerners.

    First reason!

    Hey Folks,

This is another good news to me and to the other peace loving guys like Biar.

Peace and reconciliation are the better weapons for eradicating hatred amongst our communities. Although some like “peter Kuot” may not like my commands of peace as the only solution to our differences, I must not give that up!!!.

    TO GATWECH or GATE WITCHED,

Brother you have missed it all and therefore,I recommands you to be keeping your mouth shut when you have nothing to defences Your abnormal Riek for. The issue here is not about your scarifications or the marks that you like to put in your own face for no good reason,it is about peace and reconciliation, nothing more nothing less. I hope you are going to do that thing (change) and be a good citizens of our New Sudan and not just a lost boy who have no direction. This is for your own good.

    Be bless,
    Deng Akol Agut-tungduon,

A man far away from tribalism!!!.

    Peace everwhere you go

People of Lakes state have started a significant meeeting. There is need of peace everywhere in Southern Sudan. Reporter Manyang Mayom had made a very good reports. These are the sort of information that can unite us together to face a common enemy – Omer’s govt and others in the line with solidarity.

    Unity begins at home

You need to start peace at door step and that is why it is not important to waste time with LRA when our own people are not peaceful. In this regard, Commissioner of Rumbek Central County is better than Dr. Riek Machar for he (Makol Bol) understands that unity begins at home.
Congratulations Abraham Makol Bol; you are the true man of peace.

May we give 100% appreciation to our Southern Sudanese journalist Mr. Manyang Mayom for making all World aware of what is happening in Rumbek. Congratulation Manyang!!!. Although you had been under restriction from state government, still information must go out. Let us develop Manyang to bring the brighter futures of people of Rumbek in history. We the people in Diaspora always feel like at home when Manyang tell what is happening at home while sometime we try to call home; we are given second hand information. I hope God must guide Manyang in all his life until his promise land excepted reached him in the save hand. Survival years, Manyang was been under arrest from security secrete agency and sometime he really face trouble within government zone although Manyang is work within the system.
Lakes state government especially the SPLM could take out this young journalist for the future users. He is intelligence but there is no support from his grassroots at all. SPLM as the movement promise to change, this is the right task for SPLM to act to adopt people like Manyang who is seriously concerns to bring together the people at home and over side the country.
Let develops youths who can sound to make tomorrow image better like journalists whom Manyang become like Alfred Taban who really suffer under NCP in Khartoum. I know very well that Rumbek had more local journalists but they are not heard because SPLM is placing hand upon them seriously. Please Please allow freedom of expression now and you can see change coming in.
I want to aware SPLM and NCP that journalists are not your people at all, they are straight forwards aiming people to hear what is happening. I cam across SPLM official talking against Manyang that his is a bad boy who took thing on air without approvable from ministry of information, that is not right to claim his document. Allow him to talk and open your door to him so that you are saved. The member from NCP who resident in Malakia is now making recruitment of Radio Rumbek local Media and SPLM is serious protecting the NCP to have no excess to Radio and indeed the are trying Manyang to keep quite which is direct violation to CPA chapter of Free of Expression. God bless them and let Media focus to expose their failure.

    Thanks

    Gentlemen and Ladies,

Peace, Love, Reconciliation and forgiven are not invetible among Southern communities. The situations are insigated by many factors. Arabs use little lopholes within communities to incite hatred, misinformation formulai, divide and rule policies etc.

Arabs encouraged Kakoro in Equatoria, Mujadiin whose few are from Aweil itself, Nuer after Juba attacked failure SPLA split and now they are out to have encouraged corruption and clans fights in every state. One wonders, where do new brand AKM 47 come from? Mostly from their so-called Unity State and most parts of Equatoria, northern Bhar el Ghazal. In Lakes State over four thousand(4,000)AKM 47 were collected from Gelwneg ( Cattle keepers), now they have acquired more than that number. One youngman can carry over six magazines, some in full attire (military unform).

Now, the task is: SPLA to have their soldiers everywhere over Southern Sudan and elsewhere given Military ID cards and their Guns registered. No one is allowed to carry his gun even if he is released for a visit to his family or sick leave. This is where some youngman acquire guns. All ten states’ borders be closed with points of tribes/clans clash be stationed with mixed Police and SPLA to guard against state inter-tribe clans’ fights. Ref. to Wunlit Dinka/Nuer reconciliation conference of 1999 March notes.

Murder cases in most Southern Prisons, esp. Lakes, Warrap and Bor be settled without favor, clan affiliations, authorities interference, GOSS members or SPLA high rank officers noosing in.
On time settlement of cattle matters be put in place. Judges to take up their role as a neutral and impartial body. No bribery minded fellows allow.

If all of the above and more are done, then we will have a Peace South Sudan once again.

    Dear all
Iam so dissappointting by the behavoiur of the certain group of people toward Bor .
What have Bor done to you?

    TOPBOY

My friend Top boy is one of the Nuer who has been fed by Dinka Bor since when he was young up to now but he don’t want to thank God for the well stay he enjoy here in Bor town.
Topboy as he claim is true reverse of the last boy because he is always leading at the tail of the school I know.
Topboy your English and stammering always specifed who you are and the community you came from.
He is a boy who doesn’t have a friend in the school due to the iherited gene from his grandfather Reat and father Rout.
Topboy has big cut on his forehead and that make him not to reason well as expected of him.
Iam with him and it is hard to transform this unculture community which is full with idotic kind of people like RUOT

It is not always good to comment on the false issue ,fact are to be told.
Mr Topboy, how can you call your services provided an Animal when you get everything from them (Bor)and chidren selling.
Were you the one who bought the child you claim to have been sold out by Garang?
When did it happen? And which place was the buying took plae.
You are the group of people who are always stealing our children for Busines.
    Pleaase stop it now.
This time I will name you KAYEIR because it mean……………… in Nuer in which you came from.
You have been employed in Bor town as the Census supervissor to your county in which you refused to go claiming that you are in the school but it was to steal children for business with the group you know.
The other reason was remoteness of Nuer.
All the Nuer MPS, commissioners, and all the young men are wandering here in Bortown looking for TANIYA every morning and evening.
Most of Nuer people has left their counties, payams, Bomas and village for big town like juba and Bortown. When will you develop your remote village.
You like eating sweet thing like Paste(taniya) which you don’t know the gredient.
You are easily to decieved by Arabs and that was the reason why your uncle Reik machar left SPLA for ARABS due to no TANIYA with SPLA and when he saw that SPLA were getting stronger than left he came back because he will get TANIYA.
Laast money in Home and Away hotel in Juba ,he ordered for TANIYA and I was surprise to see Vice President eating like child and I came to conclused that ,that migt be reason the resaon he rebel aagaint SPLA
Your traitor Dr. Riek is ever embezzling pubic fund for his own Good and you are supporting him on hopeless issue.
When will you learn to differietaite bad anad good, you remid the same every time even when you are expose to the world.
What paper will you get after your studies when you fail every subject when the displaying the result during community hour?
What English do you speak to your fellow colleague wheny ou like Arabic and Nuer as you always do when giving comment?
Please stop using your langauage in this site for comment. Use clear and understandable language that should be read by other people .

    ADVICE.

    To Gatwech,
I just want to tell you that it is not how much you defend the Vice president that will make him to be the Future leader but the fact remain that he will not rule Sudan when all dinka are still a life .
Your master DR. Riek is the traitor, coward, failure and I don’t think whether he deserve the south leadership.
Gatwech please come back to your village to come and preach them all the necessary mea to transform them.

    Thank a lot.

    Dear Readers.

I am very frustrated with the way some of you are posting abominable comments to this website.

Madness is what you are demonstrating. If you are hating then you are bound to get irate.

This is in response to what Mr. Topboy wrote yesterday that Bor are Ayuan (animals).

    Kayier Rut not Topboy.

You have seriously demonstrated your madness by saying that and that is why Sudan Tribune removed it. I did not reply it because I knew you are insane.

Kayier Rut, are you not staying in Bor with Bor people? Are you not studying in Dr. John Garang de Mabior Institute of science and Technology? If Bor are animals then why do you stay with them, eating their food (animals’ food).

Kayier you also talked alot about Riek Machar, who is he in South Sudan Politics? A traitor.

What is the difference between a dog and Riek. A dog eats back its vomits. Riek turned his gun towards SPLA in 1991 and again came back to the same with out any objection. Shame on him!

Kayier, in Garang Institute you are enjoying good food, good accomodation, good education, etc. Which Nuer did that idea of establishing an institution came. Can you give me the answer? You are a damn foolish!

Kayier why don’t you go to Dr. Riek Institute of Science and Technology if it exist any way?

Kayier I didn’t expect you the person staying with Bor to insult them if it is not your madness caused by the cuts on your forehead. You are very ugly with those contuors on your head. Mother fucker! Son of a bitch!

I have been getting information from Garang Institute that you are ever the last student, very dull. That is caused by cutting off your nerves from your head. That is the general cause of madness in Nuer. You are just bulshit man!

Kayier Rut, it is very easy to get you since I know you physically. You have fallen in to my trap man! I will send the Watchdog to get you and bring you for justice. You may think it is easy but you are joking with your life.

Unless you leave the animals as you call Bor and you move to Wurol, I will not let you and chance again to live in Bor.

You proceeded by saying that Bor are beggars. Now who is a beggar? A person who is in his home or a person who left his home to stay in another person’s home? You are the beggar.

Kayier you may apologize to Bor people on this website. That is the only chance that I have given you Otherwise you are at risk of losing your life.

    To hell you go!
